I posted this as a reply in another thread, but I decided it was best to put this in its own thread.
I had a very bad experience with this store and will absolutely never buy anything from them again.
When I was looking for my 75g setup, I shopped around like most people. Got the best price from these guys so I was ready to buy. This was a high tech setup, not just the basics.
All was good until it was time for me to pay. I wanted to pay 100% right then and there, for delivery and all, even though they didn't have it all in. Now here's where the problem began. I wanted to pay with a credit card.
The owner (younger guy, can't remember his name) is who I dealt with the entire time (3 visits prior). He was the one who wrote up the quote (on a blank piece of paper). However, when payment time came around, he walked a few feet away while the older guy (strong accent) starting telling me he'd prefer that I pay cash.
I told him I did not want to pay cash. Asked if he took credit cards. He said yes. But then he went on and on about having problems with people refusing the charges with their credit card companies, he was "worried" and "afraid" and what have you.
So I asked very clearly. Do you accept credit cards. It's okay if you do not. That is how I want to pay. Please let me know either way, yes or no. Will you accept my credit card or not?
He said yes. But then he went on for yet another 5 minutes, asking that I split up the payment. I said I really just wanted to pay for the whole thing and wait for delivery next week. I didn't understand why I would be asked to split up the payment. He said that by splitting up the payment, if I rejected one with the credit card company, they'd still have the other.
Then he tried to convince me to pay half with a cc and half cash.
At this point, I called my husband. I had never had anything like this happen before. I was very confused. I was not mad if they didn't take credit cards; I simply wanted them to make a final decision. If they wanted to take it, then do so. If not, then don't. Either way was fine. Just stop the whining and decide.
I let my husband hear what this guy was saying over the phone. I even let him talk to the guy to see if maybe I was misunderstanding something. After that, my husband strongly suggested that I walk out. Something just was not right.
I later stumbled into another person who I must say was biased as she worked at a different LFS. However, she could repeat the story to me almost verbatim without me telling her. What was of greatest significance was that the "quote" from Fish Land was plain paper. What this person told me is that they have a had a lot of people come to them for warrantee coverage on stuff they had bought from Fish Land, but Fish Land would refuse to honor it. The problem was that Fish Land not only wrote their quotes on plain paper, but they also used that same plain paper as the RECEIPT. Which meant, NO true receipt! What really caught my attention with this is that I remember the owner (younger guy) at Fish Land WAS using that plain piece of paper with the quote as my receipt.

But it really doesn't matter. After that experience, I will never go into that store again. I know they were doing something that just was not right. I believe in completely honest dealings in all my financial concerns, and do not play games.
Sorry for the rant, but I thought this was a rather serious event I experienced from them.
