    Re: Ultimate Fish

I have been there a few times when it was in the other location.  I remember the selection being nice and the prices on some fish lower than other stores.   That was several years ago though so I don't know how it is now.

that $100 cost him alot more in bad PR over the years because I've told this story to lots of fish folks that decided to spend their money at other lfs..........not to mention the thousands of dollars i've spent on my tank, fish and supplies over the years.  In business, you can't afford to lose a good customer these days.

i'm glad you had a good experience.  that's all that counts.

        Re: Ultimate Fish

im going to have to agree with RonR. with as competive as the local fish stores are today, especially with most new people going to big conglomerates (i know i work at one but as a dog trainer) its extremely bad judgement to lose a customer, there are lots of people on this forum loyal to a store, i like several myself for several reasons. but i wont ever shop at certain stores that screwed me over or tried to at least. a lot of the fish at Ultimate last time i was there were not marked. a few tanks would make sense if an order just came in. but blank tanks means that they price on judgeing someone and usually on the high side. i prefer prices be up front and center. (and no i wasnt talking about display tanks) i might go back to the store just to look and see what i might want in the future but after hearing that story i doubt it. Alex could have handled that situation differently and had that conversation outside or back at the car, and RonR would have never known, would have just thought the guy backed out. what he did was uncalled for, and Alex would have still gotten the business without being really rude.

          Re: Ultimate Fish

and on the knowledge side there isnt anystore i have been too that has all the employees be superknowledgeable (including my own i try to help train them myself) some are new to working in the industry and we all know hte high turnover rate of fish store employees. Village has been more stable of late but for a while you never knew. but the owners are the ones that get and keep long term customers. i like Village but i have a friend that went in there and could not get help and he likes to drop thousands on saltwater. but they never helped him( i guess he didnt look like he had oodles of money) so they lost him for good he has never been back. So what i guess im trying to say, is always be a friendly salesman first and canny businessman second. its better to have someone stay with you(business wise) because they like the way you work and not just because you are cheaper even if you are. because then those people come back year after year and send their friends too. and if you are always nice and helpful you can only get more customers. (and yes there will always be someone who cant be made happy, the person that always wants a deal even if you are already the lowest priced and there is nothing to be done about that person) But just keep smiling and say have a nice day sorry i couldnt help you. (and curse in private when no one is there   )

I agree with Tiapan.  Whatever happened to telling a customer, "I don't know about (whatever fish, product), but I'll find someone who does"?  That would be much better than improvising and misleading a customer.  I work at a dog kennel/groomer and I don't pretend to know everything about dogs or cats.

              HUGE porcupine puffer fully inflated
I was at Ultimate fish today where they have a 260 gallon tank and the biggest and most friendly puffer i've ever seen. The guy getting me some shrimp decided to throw a few into the tank for the lionfish (sting like a bee). Well the Puffer (Thor) decided he wanted a taste and tried to nose his way in to get a bite, but got STUNG in or around his right eye! And this was his reaction a few mins later.

                  Re: Ultimate Fish

i visited ultimate fish today, and It was an ok store.  I dont mean to be racist but is alex an oriental guy?  I saw three people working there: an oriental man, an american person, and a person that looked kind of middle eastern/russian/european etc etc.  Only one employee came up to greet me.  The prices were extremely high, but some of the fish looked to be very high quality.  The ones that stuck out were the calvus, and shell dwllers.  However, their were some acryllic tanks in the middle that looked in horrendous condition.  Some of them were brown and their were 1 ft plecos in with some monster fish.  I saw a koi float on the top while his buddies munched on his innards while he was still alive.  It was kind of a messy store.

I went to this store today around 1pm and it was closed no signs posting business hours or anything else.

The store was full of typical fish store stuff but was completely dark inside.

I'm wondering if they are still in business?
