      Re: Fish R Us

Any place that does not guarantee FW fish for any length of time (SW there are too many variables to guarantee anything) is only using that to cover the fact that their fish have a high mortality rate. A store with good fish will stand by them.

IMO any good store would guarantee the health of the fish for at least 24 hrs. After that the circumstances of the fish afterwards is in the purchasers hands.

P.S. An exception the above stated would be for delicate fish such as cardinal tetras and fish of like hardiness that die from even being looked at funny.

        Re: Fish R Us

As far as the young Chalinochromis Brichardi are concerned, it was bad judgement on my part to buy them in the first place. One of them didn't look all that great, and they where exceptionally small. I would guess they where maybe 8 to 12 weeks old. They had no color on them as of yet and the only way you could ID them was the black band on their faces. I should have demonstrated more patience and waited to find hardier specimens, but in my excitement to finally see one locally, I used poor judgement and took them anyway. Had I have had a "nursery tank" set up, it may have been a much happier ending.

I am well into the third week now with my new 75 gallon's cycle and it is supporting 6 juvenile Neo Brichardi at this time, even so, new tank syndrome could have added to their distress and ultimately their demise.

Unfortunately, the education I received cost the lives of these precious little fish, but it is a lesson that I will not soon forget.

Will I ever return to Fish R Us or recommend them to anyone, Not likely, nor will I say anymore about this experience here in this thread. I feel I have said all that was needed to be said and then some.

Thank you all for your time. I appreciate all your experience and opinions.

          Re: Fish R Us

I visited fish r us today. Such a sad place. half the discus tanks had really bad hole in head, many were solid black, football shaped and still over priced.

skinny sad looking $400 mbu puffers,

a tank of baby porcupine puffers had 6 fish sitting at the bottom motionless with their tails curled up and 2 swimming.

and while I was there for 30-45 mins not a single employee greeted me or asked if they could help.

I'd really like to buy this store and make it a place where experienced aquarium hobbyists like us would like to shop.  anyone want to be a partner?

                  Re: Fish R Us

I have shopped at this store several times, none in the past year though, and I have have never had a "bad" experience.  At times they do not have a very great selection or price, but I understand why their prices are high.  Even though they are in Conroe technically, they are really in the woodlands and everything is expensive there.

I went in once and every discus had a giant hole in its head

                        Re: Fish R Us

They seem like they might be understaffed such a large place. I don' think I've seen more than three employees there at once, but they're usually pretty nice and willing to offer assistance if you ask. Plus they were the only retailer in Houston that had Panda Butterfly goldfish. Actually none of the online retailers that sell them ever have them in stock.

                          Re: Fish R Us

I went in there to price some equipment for my new tank filter systems, sand ect... and after checking with 5 other stores they were the highest. So look around there are some very good prices out there. I saved $75.00 on my wet/dry system alone over Fish R Us.
