Its going to be for the Annectens.

I do worry somewhat that they may looked washed out.

I have been one to always just use the lights that came with the tank, but recently I replaced my bulbs with GE 9325 T-8's and it made a really nice difference in my 180.  My reds look alot better, but my Ikola black portions look more grey now.  Still it is bright in there now...

The annectens females and juviniles are black and white, with some yellow in the fins.  The males are turning grey with blue dorsals.  I think in the right lighting, they could look that cherry marron color that Konnings has them pictured as.

I just dont know what light to get them under to make that happen.

Something like that you would have to mix the lighting.....most likely the 9325k along with 6700k or even 8000k if you can find it in that spectrum for you needs.

I know GE makes a 8000k as well as ADA.

I have a 9325k, 6700k and 10000k lights that we can try over your tank before you make a purchase.

10000k and 50/50 washes out yellows and reds really bad though at it did with my ilangi's.

I will be getting a 2x150w metal halide fixture soon and I think it comes with 14000k bulbs but metal halide is a lot more crisp looking then any PC.

I was looking to get 2 of the Coralife Freshwater 30" Sinlge 65Watt 6700K fixtures.

I really did not want to just blast them with light, but the Annectens are more shallow why they kept their vertical pattern to confuse birds.

So your suggestion is to get the Dual 30" Power Comapct? with 2 differnt heat numbers.  Probably would not work, getting the single with 2 different bulbs.  Make the tank look weird.

It's not really blasting them since the PAR of the sun is extreme compared to what we have running on our tanks.

The duals will work out better but Price might become a problem running dual 30"....what you can do is look through Current's line of bulbs cause they offer a dual daylight bulb which is 6700/10,000k It might help your males but from what you describe, your females are similar to my Petros which are gray bodied with yellow tipped fins and it has the blue in it's dorsal and the 9325k really makes it glow!

Another thing....the 30" fixture is really unnecessary unless you plan on suspending them on the not supplied legs....the 30" shares the same 21" 65w bulb as the 24" but it cost like $10 more.

If it were me I would go with the 4x96w 72" fixture mounted with the legs and just let it overhang a bit.....it doesn't look too bad and you get more lighting for your money!

I think I would rather have a 48" fixture and be short on each side, then overhanging on a 72" fixture.

That's whay I was shooting for the two 30".

well the 48" might be cheaper and be just as much light. Go with that then cause it's easier to find.

Man there was one for sale on marsh not too long ago for $100 and it was the dual light fixture too.....I'll keep an eye out for you Geoff.

If you not like the bulbs you can get the Giesemann Midday 6000 bulbs for it.
Or the GE 6500K

Hey Mike when you order goods.....don't forget the gallon of Amquel+plus and NovaAqua+plus...

Also if you can price me the largest container of Seachem Tanganyikan buffer.....think it's the 44g or something of that nature.

Will be changing the substrate of my 135g soon so I will need about 6-7 bags of eco-complete cichlid substrate sand so if you can price that as well it would be cool.....
