The last time I went to the Houston Zoo I was in Elementary School. I would be interested in going. Just depends on the day and time.

maybe if we as a whole (HFB) sponsored it, it could drum up attention for the site, as well as spread the work load out. Like, each group sign up for a weekend? or even a weekday? and everyone rotate!140 New World Cichlids
125 African Lakes Victoria and Malawi
80 Lake Tanganyika (Burundi Frontosas)
30 Pundamilia Neyerie Ruti Island group
29 Tropical Semi Aggressive/Community
And to think....in January it was just the 29...)

Let me know what I can do to help you guys out though...I brought this up a bit agao after talking to one of you guys who helped me out.
Usually a behind the scenes tour does cost extra money, BUT if you know someone like a big donor that is another story.
I spoke with our main aquarium staff and we kicked around the idea of maybe having each person bring in a plant or frag etc...insted of paying for the tour. Or maybe even a volunteer day etc...kick some ideas around and let me know and I can take it to our aquarium team and see what we can work out. No promises here, I did bring this up a bit ago and they were looking into things but sometimes they do go the wayside. It does take some time to get all the OK's because it has to go through all the proper channels (like volunteers, tours, curators etc...)
But like I said, if you know a BIG donor things can sometimes move much faster, but I will do whatever I can to help you all out. Let me know!

I can't speak for the saltwater tanks, but I'd love to see three distinct freshwater tanks: South America, Lake Tanganyika, and Lake Malawi. I wouldn't mind seeing a North American tank as well - that one being the biggest since its native.
What would it take to make things like that happen? Would anyone here from GHAC or the Troph Club be interested?Experiencing an aquatic renaissance!

I went last week and I think they need some help with some of their tanks. It was disappointing. Thought there would be more tanks or fish or something. The discus tank was entirely devoid of discus. Just about all of the tanks looked like they needed a cleaning. Really the only thing I thought was exciting was the Ropefish (Erpetoichthys calabaricus) in one of the tanks and I saw a really cool solid black (except for the white fins) SW puffer that I can't find the name of.-Laura-
