Maybe. I've either been out-of-town, or I get preoccupied and forget (I know I had something in February that HAD to get done that weekend). Just so happens, I tend to be out-of-town this particular weekend in April almost every year. I was thinking about Dallas or Lake Charles, but I went to Dallas last year and just got back from New Orleans, so I'm still deciding if I want to leave again so soon.
I think the Christmas meeting was the last one I was at. . .
Hello fellow aquarium owners. Me and my wife are new to the hobby of aquariums and was told by a friend to join an aquarium club to learn more. We have done enough research to start freshwater aquariums. We currently have two tanks a 125 gallon cichlids tank and a 10 gallon goldfish tank. We started small with the goldfish first.
Now we would like to know how and what we need to do in order to join, and what can we expect if and when we join. Thanks in advance
Basically all you need to join GHAC is to show up to a meeting. It's a $10 donation for member fee. And that's basically it! Monthly meetings are held usually on the third Saturday of the month at one of our homes, and there are several auctions a year too. At the meetings, we all bring food/drink and something for the grill. You can also bring stuff to trade or sell or give away. We spend 10-15 minutes or so on business, and then spend the rest of the time enjoying the tanks and talking about our fish and whatever else. It's very informal.
Family members and kids are welcome. Would love to see you both at our next meeting! And do share pics of your tanks in a new thread. We all looooovvvve pics and videos!
Sounds like fun. I just need to check with the calender and see if we can make this next meeting, and if we can attend we will be there. Looking forward to meeting everyone. Thanks for the reply
Well, I was intending to leave the Friday night before the meeting, but we just reopened the lab, and we're figuring out our scheduling based on when work is coming in. We've worked a few Saturdays now (we only work the weekends when needed, but we don't know until right before), but one of my co-workers is already going to be out-of-town, so I made the decision to stick around until at least late Saturday in case something comes up, because we're the only ones that have been performing a few of the tasks (I don't want to drop that on someone that hasn't been actually doing it, even though they could).
So, that limits my driving radius, and probably eliminates my leaving altogether. I should probably go to the meeting, but I've been depressed about my fish since February, when I lost everything when I left town for a couple of days. I haven't even taken enjoyment going to the stores, which is something I've always loved to do since I was just a kid (I haven't had issues like this in about a decade, when I had a heater burn out during a winter night while living in Maine). I just don't know what to do with it. . .
I need inspiration.
Tell your boss you need to go home to take care of your "cichlids." It sounds an awful lot like "sick kids." )
