"please remember HAS members' bidder fees are waived for the three auctions they hold each year.  If you attend the three auctions, your annual dues pay for themselves.  As to feeling that HAS took your money and ran, I'm sorry you feel that way.  If you notice, the people working the hardest at the HAS auctions are the board members, and in their defense I will say they simply do not have the time to socialize during an auction.  As to the unanswered email, I don't have an answer for that so I can't comment."

I will say that i not only paid for my dues the day of the auction but i was also charged $5.00 for my bidders card that day.....I didn't expect any of the officials to come and hold my hand and lead me around the auction...in fact i will say that one of the officials did me wrong on one of the silent auction items and prosper offered me the same item at the price i had bid on it (after they realized what they had done to me)...so it's not the people that i was complaining about it's lack of follow up on getting information out to "paid" members......hell i didn't even get a kiss when  they took my money/cashed my checks.......but i will say this i enjoyed the auction a great deal and would be thrilled to go the one coming up soon as well.....i just think their priorities as stated above by Taipan is sorely focused.....

I for one am very excited about the new club and it's members are all really great people....so i think if you start out with greatness it can only go upward in it's endevors....

I'm not a meeting person and rarely attend meetings of any sort, but I do know that any and all members are welcome at the meetings.  The best way to improve or change things is to participate and offer your suggestions.

I look forward to all auctions, then I have to figure out what to do with all the stuff I just couldn't live without   .

Yeah the HLA auction got me on this livebearer's thing and the whole idea behind my new tank is so that when I come home from the next auction I would have a place to put whatever it is in.

Re: GHAC - Comments and like Chatter Thread

i did not post on this thread to make anyone mad, just state my opinion on fish clubs in houston.like i said,i am no socializer, more likley to be found by myself in the fish room on a friday night.a strong fish club in houstoun is good for me,what its called doesnt matter.the fact so many people had a good time is whats important.if i hadnt been in san antonio
i would have come, but it would probably not turn into a monthly thing for me,but you never know.somebody up the thread said something about the meeting being a hfb meeting,i wound agree, which is fine too.the box is the best thing to happen to the freshwater scene in houston in a long time, and it just keeps getting better.i dont post alot, but i spend at least an hour a day reading your posts.its awesome.in my ideal world, the fresh water community in houston would be one group where all facets;social, auction, knowledge, community service, etc would be covered.maybe that just cant happen, and thats ok.

scott-politics seems to be a part of most fish clubs.i sincerly hope you never have to go down the road of bs that i have seen many people get dragged

fishlady-it makes me very sad that you are disappointed with the HAS,and from the other postings on this thread you are not the only one.to me,HAS is a pretty weak club, but doesnt have to be that way.the unhappiness of the members and prospective members  should be the number one priority of the prez and board members.if you complain about this club to an official and you dont get treated the way you think you should, please let me know.if you cannot make contact with an official, let me know.i will guarentee,if you want your opinions heard, they will be heard.if you feel like dues for HAS have been a waste of money,i will refund them out of my own pocket.if you try to get a hold of a board member and cant in a reasonable amount of time ,let me know.i WILL make it happen.we need the input of unhappy club members,it will make the club better.look forward to meeting you.this is the most i have ever typed in my life.everybody have a wonderful day.rob

thank you Rob.....i certainly don't want you to give me anything out of your own pocket...but i most certainly appreciate that offer....I really wanted to be a part of that club....that's why i paid the dues...and went to the auction in the first place....i emailed Prosper last week and have yet to hear anything....i went to the website numerous times...and that is another pet peeve i have....no one takes time to update that thing either....oh i'll stop....anyway....yes i'm very displeased with how i've been treated by the club....but i'm not one to hold grudges and so i will get what i had hoped for out of them ....out of this new one....and much more i do believe......look forward to meeting you as well Rob.....take care not to get cramps in those fingers typing so much....hehehehehe....and again thank you for your concern....

Fishlady – you said in your last posting “I’m very disappointed in them”.  You should have said “I’m very disappointed in the club in which I’m a member” since you also stated that you joined HAS at the last Auction. Since you’re a member of HAS and like the idea of people who are “so eager to help each other at a moments notice” . . . I will ask you a direct question – Can you come to the next HAS Board Meeting? I will nominate you to be Chairperson of the “Welcoming Committee.”  I’ll even volunteer to be on that committee to help you out. The reason I ask this question is to see if you are truly one of those people eager to help out.

Have you been on any of the HAS trips or tours since you became a member? There have been several. I’ll guarantee you they were a lot more interesting than sitting around an overheated fish store.

You also complained that we like to “take the money and run”.  Do you know what it costs to hold a Holiday Party? How about a trip to New Braunfels with van rental, gas, and food? Don’t you think it’s worth $15 to go on just those two events?  I certainly do. And those are just a couple of the events that we did in the past year at little or no cost to the membership.

Here are some wise words for all to remember…”If all you do is sit back and complain, you’ll never be part of the solution…just part of the problem!”

If you would like to discuss this further, please feel free to contact me.  Dave

Re: GHAC - Comments and like Chatter Thread

I cant understand why HAS would be so upset that a new club is forming when it would have many of the same goals that HAS has. If HAS was serious about promoting good fishkeeping and aquarist socializing then it would support the new club and not playdown it as a 'doomed to fail club'.

There are several reasons i dont want to be a member of HAS; the $5 bidder card even if you dont buy anything and the crazy 25% sales commission, are just two of the reasons. I know a lot of people at LHA, and what will eventually be the GHAC, and would prefer to hang around with them.

The HAS will prove whether it has the ability to compete with a newer club, or whether it was being held together by the auctions and sentiment. I cant find any information on the website about HAS' budget or income/expenditure sheet. Do you have to pay dues before you get access to the spending of your due money?

Great way to knock everyone as a whole rather then address FishLady's concern in a "friendly club" way.......Didn't expect this from the club's representative.
