  • SWAP N SELL

OK guys n gals, lets start talking about the swap n sell. We will probably have the first one in June,  I am thinking a Saturday morning, while it is still cool would probably be best. I know, with the HAS auction coming up between now and then it would be impossible to list what we are planning to bring to the meet, but I would like to at least get the names of those who plan to bring items to sell, and the names of those who plan to attend. The more information I have in this reguard the easier it will be for me to get this thing rolling. Also, I will need to know if you preffer to do this swap meet style, or auction style. Each has its own benefits, swap meet style you can set your price and negotiate the sale, auction you can potentially get more than you thought. If done auction style, all sales would be funneled thru the LHA account. For this reason there would be sales tax, as well as a 10% sales fee assessed. The sales tax rate for Huffman is 5.25%, and the 10% pre-tax charged by LHA would be used for club functions, such as a fish fry, BBQ, or other such event.
Anyway, let me know how you would preffer to handle this and give me an idea on turnout.

    Re: SWAP N SELL

I know I will be in attendence if I can get enough notice.  As for selling, I might be interested in that too.

When taking your fish for auction or swap meet, how do you recommend transporting fish?  I've transported fish before with buckets and and battery operated aerator, but we are talking about what.....setting up a tank for displaying the fish?  Would it be risky for the fish to stress out.  I'm scared of losing my fish, or them dying not long after bought or traded.

    Make any sense?

Basically we would follow the same procedures that HAS has implemented for their auction. All fish would need to be bagged or if to large, bucketted. If the fish are to be sold in a bucket, the bucket would be part of the purchase. Due to the mid day temps, we would be doing the sale in the morning while still cool to minimise the chance of the fish getting to warm and depleteing their oxygen supplies.
Believe it or not, this way works very well, with very very few losses.

I can probably bring some mollies. When is this? I may use two litter bottles with about 20% water and 80% air. This works OK if they are thoroughly rinsed and not overstocked. Sometimes I remove the caps or lay the bottles on their sides to make more surface area. Obviously, it only works for small fish. I will bring an extra bucket and a battery operated pump in case I trade for something big in a bucket.

We are very interested in participating.  At this point would probably have mollies & platties to trade or sell. The first and 3rd weekends in June we have out of town trips planned.  There is a pet store that reopened near us and has a small room to the side that could possible hold 20 people.  We could donate some left over fish to their store for letting us meet there.  I can check into it further if you would like?  Located about 2 miles from the  grayhound dog track exit 15 off of I45 in Santa Fe.

Here is a list of the fish I am currently breeding, of these I have close to 700 fry or young juv's that will either be going to auction or being held for swap n sell events. These are what are left over after my store commitments are met.

            SA CICHLIDS
            convict
            jack dempsy
            green terror

            TANGANYIKAN

            julidochromis marlieri

            MALAWI
            red zebra
            yellow lab
            hongi
            trewavase
            ice blue
            borleyi
            electric blue
                     Peacocks
            chipoka

As you can see, I have let things get away from me to some degree. its amazing how quickly you can accumulate species.
