GHAC Club Event - Fish Gallery Tour (15% Discount)
Re: GHAC Club Event - Fish Gallery Tour (15% Discount)
Sorry I couldn't come.
My daughter called for our weekly Sunday call at 3:00, and she was upset...kid stuff...and we had a 2 hour conversation. I can't bear it when she crys. So...
Hope it was as much fun as I thought it would be, especially the after-Tour food fest!
I just hope there weren't any used giant tanks with stands for sale for $50...I would hate to have missed that.
Working for a better Future for my Fish!

I could not make it either. As I was getting a not tub for my fishes. A 350 gallon fish tank/hot tub. All I have to do is add water & run an electrical line to it. The price was FREE for it.
Thank you Mike for helping me move it.

Raul,
Thanks for putting this together.
Now let me stand on my soap box. Fish Gallery is expensive....I'm sorry but I could not see myself buying from them. I like Roger alot, but wow! Secondly, you are taking a group of hobbyist on a tour of your store. We had like 30 people to come out? And there are dead fish in tanks and some tanks we not clean?
Come on, tour started a 3:30 proposed time. Send your staff around at 3 to wipe glass and pluck dead fish. I had fun talking with everyone and getting on some people nerves. But, I was not overly impress by what I saw.
The huge display tank have what..South American, Tangs, Brackish, Malawi and a puffer! No...not a small puffer but a HUGE puffer. This was beyond crazy it was just damn right stupid. This give non-educated folks the notion that they can put whatever with whatever and they will co exist. Yes, you can do this with humans (some) dogs, cats, and very few other life forms. But with fish it's different, they required special diets and special water needs. But they are co existing in a 5000 gallon system at the store...so he like it I love it. One question I wanted to ask was "How many fish have you lose vs what you have in the tank now? But I didnt want to end the tour 5 minutes after it started
And yes some fish was breeding, but we all know that the fish breeding would breed anywhere!
Now, there was one high point.....I had a chance to talk with Don . He use to work at the original store and was one of the few people who care about the hobbyist.

Delock,
Man you beat around the bush. Why don't you just spit it out and tell us how you really feel
Sheesh! You PC types :)

"Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end"

Looks like he didn't like it!
At least I got puffer food (dried shrimp and krill) at a good price. Most of the fish I saw I like I could get less expensive elsewhere, 15% off or not :!:
However, FG is the only place where I found a South American Darter Tetra (aka Hummingbird Tetra), a peaceful but efficient snail predator. Never saw one before or since. I informed Don that he may want to try to get them back in stock. They even eat MT snails

Maybe it's just me but it looks like there are less fish in their now than what their used to be...I dont know.
FG is expensive, but we still like to go there just to look around. All in all it was a great time and dinner was good too!! It's always fun seeing everyone
Re: GHAC Club Event - Fish Gallery Tour (15% Discount)
Overall I thought the Tour was good.
The Showroom is fantastic. I also shared some thoughts about mixing SA, CA, and various Africans from differ lakes in a huge tank with another member. Most of us have been in the hobby long enough to know mixing all of these is not ideal, and like Delock said, it can give a newbie the wrong ideal about stocking a normal size tank.
They usually have great fish, some that are not available much at other stores. Great looking plants. The presentation of the store is great.
On the other hand, I felt that FG was unprepared for giving a tour to a group our size. I informed my contact and FG before hand about how many people to expect. The tour also started late. I will give credit to our guides on the tour. I found them to be knowledgeable and informative. I would recommend that they split the group into two because of our size I had trouble hearing what was being said.
I agree, FG is not the cheapest store in town, but one of the cleanest and better staffed ones around.
As for the group, I am very pleased that everyone made it out. I don't think you will find this kind of turnout on a regular basis with any other group. The dinner was great! Thanks Shane for the hookup. I'll kiss your ring whenever you decide to where it.
Re: GHAC Club Event - Fish Gallery Tour (15% Discount)
I like that they have some varieties that other stores don't often have. Threadfin rainbows, brochis britski, green neons, and red-tailed loaches to name a few.
I couldn't help it. I got sucked in like the fat lady at a candy store. I did hold off on some things that I know I can get elsewhere for less. But I've yet to see brochis britski anywhere in town, or the threadfins either.
The ultimate oxymoron - Narcolepsy and ADHD. Who says you can`t have it all??!!

Hey Dee:
Come on you gotta be a bit gracious about this...you can say those things in person, but don't put the negatives in writing for everyone to see...it's like if you invited people to your house and then they'd go back and post things...like "did you see the dog hair in the corners?" (that's what they'd say at my house anyway...) and the kitchen was a mess...and they must never clean the bathroom...
I've never been a diplomat, but sometimes you just gotta be NICE! ...at least in what you write... H
