Not at all, I love talking fish LOL! As far as collecting gear goes, I have 2-3 long tight holed dip nets (4-6'), a 20' Seine, and a cast net as well as a collection of smaller aquarium nets for kiddoes. While Cast nets and seines can catch cool stuff, a long fine holed net is likely the easiest to work with initially for an adult in my experience. They sell them at Wal-Mart and Academy as well. I try and add more nets and gear every year so if you don't get one its no biggie and can barrow one of ours. They are back in the fishing section and some of the collapsible ones really do great. An extra 5 gallon bucket can come in handy for fish/plants/inverts and doubles as a seat if its empty. A wide brimmed hat can keep the sun off your face and sunblock helps. A backpack is great for water and supplies. Drinking water is always good and usually one of us has an ice chest in the truck to stock up in. Cameras record all those crazy pics you might miss. A battery operated bubbler can keep any catches alive on the trip home and are great to have in case of a power outage at your house ( they sell them cheap at Academy in the bait area). Tall boots or rubber boots can be nice as there is a chance of getting your feet wet/muddy. I just give up and wade in usually. In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.
