The lable said "breeding pair of platys" and one was belly up!! It's shocking that this seller was allowed to participate. That said, the majority of sellers adhered to the guidelines and made the show successful.
Some of us were at a meeting before the auction and were late. The GHAC auction was started at 11:20, but it was an auction that was mainly for the Houston area. The HAS auction started at 11:45-12:00, but it was for the entire state of Texas and even people from other states participated. It is hard to get that many people to start at 11:00 on the dot.
Fish are people too, they just have gills.

I know I was slightly dissapointed in the auction. I made sure...with the help of Tim too..THANK YOU AGAIN TIM AN FIONA...that all my fishes were properly bagged, an doubled, labeled correctly, an placed out in a timely manner. Some people did not obey the regulations...an from what I could tell, not punished either for dead fish or improper bagging/packaging, or leaking bags. The prices were disapointing too. Although as a buyer, it was nice to get some good deals, there is a big difference in a deal, an a steal! I brought some guppies, all were pure strain, an didn't even get close to what they were worth, even pulled a few out of the sale. Same with the plecos...I brought 2 longfin brown females, a mated pair of albino super longfins, a L180 wild caught female bn, an some L144 blue eyed yellows bns, and some albino short fins...an ended up pulling most all of them too. I am sorry, but $2 for a L144, $20 for a albino LF Pair, an $15 for a wild caught L180...is RIDICULOUS!!!!! I could make more money on them getting store credit/cash wholesale prices.

What I've found out over the years is that something is only worth what someone else is willing to pay...just my 2 cents...I really appreciated your help
Also...I'd like to know what shop you're getting that amount from....I have some fish to sell...lol

I remember you lil miss , you were all over the place. I was glad I was a buyer and not a seller. Altough the auction lady , when she was up, her starting bid was pretty high. But it was also the beginning so lots more people . I think whoever stays later gets the best deals. I left around 4ish. Long drive back

By the way...we would normally check stuff better as items are checked in and rebag stuff as necessary...but we were short handed as some of our regulars were busy disassembling the show room. At a typical auction, we don't hand out the colored dots until someone has checked each item for the seller...just an fyi

I guess I know what to expect for the next go round....I did enjoy meeting new people, an helping, my back an legs were SOOO sore the next day from all the pacing back an fourth. But it was fun, just some of the prices were scary low....but I know what to bring for the next round, an what to expect on the prices.

Sometimes what happens in one auction doesnt repeat itself. This auction was extremly quite on the Pleco front but many others had bidding wars. Like Geoff mentioned Kuhli loaches went for $60 a pop if I remember correctly. One auction had discus pairs going for $300-400. So sometimes you never know.
