Tropheus Chilambo - Building their tank starting Colony

Yeah there has been some thought to this, but I have been observing the fish, and they are not even blending. The Kiku are only interested in Kiku and the Chilambo are only interested in their own. I mean the only time I notice the alpha Kiku chasing anyone, he only chases Kiku, he barely could care less that the chilambo is in the tank. For him they are only a nuisance when he is trying to breed. For now I dont think there is going to be a problem. I will be observing them for a while. I have been doing a ton of reading and several people whom I trust and have spoken to have all said that sp red and rainbow will live side by side and not interbreed. So far this is what I have seen too in my tank.

I think with as much a space as you have it might not be as prevalent an issue as could be in a smaller tank.

Per Ad Konings these fish live with Moorii and dont interbreed. So far in the tank I have not seen any of the male Kiku going after any female Chilambo, but we will see. If they do then I will be destroying fry and seperating the two colonies apart. We will see what the future brings..

Dominant red males are the worst, they will breed with a cockroach.

If I had to choose, it would be the Reds, no question. As nice as they are, the Chilambos are that much nicer.

Well right now if anyone is holding its blowout girl.. because as soon as she and alpha male where dropped in the tank 24 hours later they where at it like there was no tomorrow.. and that latest hours... but I never saw egg drops.. :( :(

Didn't you just order a bunch more Kiku's? I'd try to hang on to them simply because of the rare factor. But to each his own.

Non ordered because non came in to cichlids and herps, and yes I dont want to get rid of them. I will just have relocate them into another tank, that is if interbreeding occurs.

In other news.. the tank was leveled this evening. Spot came over and we all worked on it tonight and got the tank leveled from front to back with less than 1/16" of difference. I hope that takes care of the leveling problems I had.
