  • I got chimba fry!!!

yep...today I was removing all the slate rock from my chimba tank and realized that my chimba that had been holding finally spit one out while I was in the tank. they are complete little fry (no sack or anything). Since she had let one go I went ahead and caught her in a net and stripped the rest from her. She gave me a total of 10 fry and they are now in their own 10 gallon tank. My question is...when do I start feeding them. should I just give them crushed flake at first or could they handle the NLS Grow already? how many times daily should I feed them. I have never grown out newborn fry so this is my first time. how big should I let them get before I let them go to someone else?

My little ones are eating NLS thera A.....and I'm pretty sure they will eat just about anything that they preceive as food....

    good luck....

              First, congrats bro.

Second, if the fishes don't have sacks anymore, then you can feed them the .5mm grow. Both crush flakes and the NLS pellets will work. You should feed them at the same time you feed your colonies. From my experience it's hard to over feed fry.

Lastly, you can sell them right now if you wanted too. They should do fine if they are not being shipped or anything. Holding them for two weeks or a month wouldn't hurt and help them over better.

p.s. the females are going to start pumping out frys now!
I ate my fish that died.

sweet!!! I dont know why...but chimbas have always been one of my favorite tropheus. I will attempt NLS grow on them tomorrow. I will hold them for now if nobody comes looking. I should be getting Katoto fry soon as well since I noticed them holding on the same day...

On free swiming Tropheus fry, I feed growth or crushed up 1mm pellets. I also feed flakes.

The fry eat the 1mm pretty well at about 1.5" smaller than that and they will eat it, but they usually hold the 1 pellet in their mouth and have to drop and pick it up 50 times. Sometimes they loose their prize...poor little guys!!

Ok, so this first batch of fry is now happily in the hands of new parents Steve and Loretta. I currently have 2 more females holding so I will post more on this thread when they are ready to spit.
