i think i want a vortech for my 75g with my gk's, i like the low profile and small footprint, and i really lie the super wide high output flow.

if i can find one for a good price used, i will jump on it.

As half of Houston does the same thing on marshreef.

Hard to find them cheap. They go 300-340 used.

Best bet is to find a Gen 1. Really all you need for non-reef stuff and normally goes cheaper.

        Good luck on the hunt.

I know this is not a scientific experiment, but I do think I can hypothesize that the extra flow by the vortechs contributes to the additional fry in all my tanks. The fry count is much higher than usual.
What setting do you have yours on Donald?

I got my second one and I'm toying with the wireless setting...it's wild!

Again, you were right two on a 6 footer is perfect.

You gotta look for deals. That Pet Place just had 15% off of $175+ purchase. Makes the MP40W about $360 new (not including shipping).

I like reef crest mode. I put one on my 3 foot 70 gal, and the flow is crazy in that tank. It's 2 to 3" from the top, and it's blowing the sand on the bottom. This tank is 24" tall.

Not a bad deal. I would pay an extra 60-70 bucks for the warranty.

all your vortechs set at 100% flow rate?

I've been playing with that - right now everything at 100%.

I put these through a different break-in period than the first 3 units. Day 1 - about 50%, Day 2- about 75%, then Day 3 - 100%. Each day listening for rattling or other noise. Once you hit that sweet spot, these PHs are great.

I actually did the same thing. Some people on the reef forums were complaining about the magnets not being properly balance. And some units where making noise no matter how the wetside was placed.

All mine are works fine, but I only run them at 66% because I felt at 100% the flow was still a little to narrow and not as general as I liked.

I think it's a good complaint. I ate through 3 wet frames and you can tell where the magnet was wobbling. The replacement parts should be in tomorrow, but I it was taking too long so I bought a few wet sides to have on hand if it happens again. (This is why I give that promptness on delivery such a low score. I also don't like the fact that they don't take notes on their customers. The support rep started confusing my issue with someone else's while on the phone.)

I still need to setup the backup battery part.

dang, 3 wet frames in a few weeks is a lot!

Had no problems so far. I have a spare wetside too.

And like you I'm still working on the back up. Thinking about just buying the battery that you linked me to on the other thread.

No, 3 wet frames in a few days (about 1 week of usage). The first 3 units chewed through their wetframe.

wow, did you figure out what went wrong to cause the wobbling?

did you allow water to completely fill the backside of the wetside?

I have no idea what happened. I just know that I'm trying not to have it happen again.

The spare wetsides that I bought sound better than the ones that came with the vortechs.
