TROUBLE IN PARADISE
Man I got hit with a nasty case of bloat. Just when you think everything is great and your on top of your Sh** all hell breaks loose .
since last Wednesday I noticed a sumo about the size of a golf ball so this is what i have done so far
- wed -full dose of epson
- thu - full dose of clout * lost one sumo
- fri -80% w/c half dose of clout * lost 1 ikola
- sat - 80 % w/c * lost 1 ikola
- sun -full dose of metro
- mon actually thought it stabalized 1/2 metro
- tues I was wrong
- wed 80% w/c epson salt * lost 1 sumo
- thurs full dose of clout 2 sumos about the size of golf balls
- fri its gonna suck!
my system is pretty clean and I have checked everything and re-maintained everything
I am lost I think it might have to do with diet since the sumos are getting effected the most
none of my old petros or trophs have had any issues (knock on wood)
I dont know what to do?
as for the ikola that was holding she swallowed about a week later

In really bad cases, I have doable dosed both metro and clout and treated everyday with 50% daily with no issues.
I think the drug loses a lot of it's effectiveness if you are not doing the full treatment.
I would at least do the full treatment daily for at least 5 days.I ate my fish that died.

I was thinking the same thing. I had five Moops go through this about 6 -7 months ago..basically because I started "jacking around " with the PH. Out of the five... I only lost two. I have learned that once they swell up (pine cone up)...you have to hit the fish hard with Clout. I think the first fish died because I started treatment to late. (the fish's eyes were already bulging out of their sockets) and because I was treating sparingly with the Clout. I decided to treat heavy with the Clout and the last three made complete recoveries. Here's what I did:
Day 1 : Removed sick fish from tank and put into small hospital tank with Sponge filter and heater. I turned the heater a little higher than I keep my tank. I think I put it around 86 degrees. Treat with full dose of Clout. Covered tank completely...no lights....NO FOOD.
Day 2 : Treat with Clout (Full Dose) . No water change. Keep tank covered...no lights...no foood.
Day 3 : 75% - 80% water change. Treat with Epsom Salt. No lights...no food.
At this point I usually see a little improvement. The swelling is starting to go down. (Fish is still Bloated but not as bad)
Day 4: Full dose of Clout ...No water change...no lights..no food.
Day 5: Full dose of Clout..... No water change...no lights..no food.
Day 6: 75% - 80% water change. Treat with Epsom Salt. No lights...no food.
By now.... fish were pretty much back to normal. I still kept them in the hospital tank for about 4 - 5 more days.
Out of the five that had this issue... the last three fish I saved using this method. I think on one of the fish I treated with Clout a couple more days. Also, keep in mind that these fish were Bloated up and looking like little Blowfish. I hope this helps you...and of course...you can tweak this to what works best for you. My main point is that you may need to hit the fish hard with the Clout.
