6ft tank put 20 fish maximum per 60 gallons with proper Tropheus filtration and water change routine.

superior filtration? that's only an American thing. Most Old world people runs strictly canisters on larger or more packed setups.

If the 170 gallon tank is 6ft long, then no problem with about 55 maximum with a Tropheus styled filtration system.

2- Eheim 2262's and a pair of Vortechs would be plenty for this setup. But a Wetdry would be the best for them in 6ft tanks and larger.
