  • Wet Dry filter media tray questions!

Hey everyone I have a Eshopps WD rated for 300-400 gallons with mag 10 pump. I love it but am interested in what you guys and girls use for filter media in the trays to catch the stuff before it drips to the bio balls? I have some white cloth that I cut to fit from Fosters Smith its so many micron and seems to work well but it is filled with crud in two days time and I usually take it in the back yard and have a hose hooked up to a spray nozzle then hold up to the brick wall and spray the crud out of it untill its brite white again ring it out and put back on the drip tray! Well its getting winter in oklahoma and I am not going to go to the back yard to do this when its 25 degrees and wind 30mph. I cant get the crud out of them in the sink not enough pressure and thought about hooking hose up with nozzle in the shower but am afraid of soap scum shampoo etc getting on the material. So to make long question short what do you pro's use it has to be easier right? Thanks CD

I have normal filter floss. I just toss it when it gets old. I got two pill case full from John for like 2 bucks.

I also put my purigen on top the floss right where the water flows in to make sure it goes over it before reaching the bottom.

You mean the pillow stuffing? If so you just take few hand fulls and put it in the trays? How long between cleaning or tossing it? MJ your on the ball tonight I can't type fast enough to keep up with your answers! lol

        weak sauce bro.

I really have no idea what it is. It does look like pillow stuffing. John had a group buy a while back.

I change it out once a week during water change.....I guess I could wash it and reuse it, but I just got so much of the stuff I try to find a reason to trash it.

I use it as a prefilter for my wet dry. Change it out twice a week. Once it gets brown and dirty, just put the tray out to the grass and dump it so once it dries, it goes to the trash

Are we talking pillow stuffing or weak sauce?

Not sure if it is pillow stuffing, it is a white matte that I cut to size.

cut it to size. Make as many as you can out of the sheets.
then each time you remove one. put another one in ... dump the one you took out in the washer and wash it. (or pile enough together to you have all but the one you just put in the filter) and then wash them

I personally wouldn't recommend micron pads b/c they are a pain to clean. You can put it in the washer but I don't fell comfortable putting the pads through that type of wash.

I'm assuming you wouldn't use soap but there might be residue left over from the previous wash. I know a member on here that does the same thing with no problems but it still freaks me out.

The stuff your talking about is called Quilt Batting. That's the stuff we got from John. You can buy it in big rolls.
