Yeah, I agree with you 100% if we are talking about the Northern Half of the lake and the Congo side. Think of all the tropheus colonies that are isolated due to rock formations! Not to mention the undiscovered petros!

Hey guys,
Geoff: The f1 Ilangi have QT'd in a 55 for 4 weeks. I will be putting them into the 125 that's housing the 15 WC (still up in the air as to the truthfulness of whether or not that xanthic is WC)..

I have 4 AC 110 and a Hydro Sponge V with a zoo med oscillating powerhead on the 125.
I figure I'm going to have that fish for a long time and I might as well do the damn thang. 5 years is gonna go by no matter what I'm doing, so I might as well do something that's kewl.

As far as his age and sex:
I've had him since end of July. He's grown about .5-.75 inches I'd say. He's around 2.5-3 inches now. I don't know how long Butch had him before I bought him. A few of those pics are from when I first brought him home. Here's a dumb quesion: do you measure a fish from tip of nose to tip of tail or tip of nose to where the body turns into the tail? Either way he is shrimpy-boy compared to the dominant males who are bruisers.

We vented him before he went into the bag to go to my house. I know that venting such a young specimen is notoriously dubiously sketchy. But, watching him with the females, he does try to woo when the dominant males aren't looking and then they'll chase him away. He even does a little of the dorsal fin fluttering at them. I know that this isn't fool proof either and that it's all conjecture until I pull him out and have a look under the hood again. :lupe:

I want to explore the congo! I'll bring the med kit and some fire so you boys can "nullify" the booze before you drink it so you the locals don't go postal on you for imbibing. And maybe a bundt cake would come in handy.

After re-reading your post, Geoff, I find I have another question.

Are you looking at the size of his eye relative to his body or are you talking about your eyeballing the fish and guestimating?

The eye is a tell all for age. You can tell if the fish is younger or older based on size of the eye to the size of the head.

Younger fish have smaller eyes than the adults.

Look at your other fish that are adult. The eye is larger in proportion to the head than the younger fish.

just look at your first two photos and you will see what I am talking about. Fish of similiar size in length, but the eye size is different cause its a younger fish.

I see it all the time in juvinile fishes and fishes that are in early adulthood.
