  • New tropheus? Photo ID

Steve from VA is reporting that there is a new tropheus.

Here is the picture he took of them. They're named Tropheus Moori "Twihu".

So what do you guys think?

Interesting, does he any info on collection point or discovery(who, when)? I am sure that there are many undiscovered variants. If things ever stabilize on the northern end of the lake we could see dozens of new variants!

    180g - Petrochromis Macrognathus Dine/Tropheus Moorii Namansi I

Questions just like yours are being asked and he has no given any answers.

He is a new "exporter" on the east side of the lake. He got two shipments into the US earlier this year. One went to Butch from Aqarium Maintenance Specialist and the other went to Greg from Little Africa Aquatics, I believe. There may have been more but not to my knowledge. But I don't think Steve is a full time exporter and was only piggy backing off someone else. This may be speculation as I don't have direct contract with Steve, and I'm only getting this info second hand from some importers I do have contact with.

I don't expect Steve to give up this type of information on the fish. He is trying to make a living so keeping it a secret is better for him.

I'll report what I know if I get any info on them. They actually look like some fish I've seen in the aqualog but I don't have the book in front of me right now to check.

Couple things for sure, its southern rainbow type with large blended sunspot these guys run in the extreme corners

I would put money on "Kala Island" Tropheus or something very close to that collection point.

Hi all, Steve is calling them moorii Twihu but will not divulge actual collection point which is understandable. They look like moorii namansi yellow (never seen them in the US) but there was a picture on the web (Germany I think) that looks similar. According to Steve, there are no tropheus in Namansi..which eludes the actual collection to different collectors etc.

However, the kala as you guys pointed out is very close.
