  • Frozen Mysis Safe for Tropheus - Opinions please...

Is one of these little squares safe to feed my 40 tropheus? I am not being stupid and have been reading where people feed this mysis shrimp but am worried about them getting bloat etc if fed incorrectly. Thanks cd

Ok couldn't wait any longer! I took cup of tank water and stuck one square of the frozen Mysis shrimp with vitamins thawed and stirred well then poured it in and OMG these fish come UNGLUED you would of thought I put a whole butter cream cake (yeh I like butter cream sooo?) in the tank. These fish started hauling butt all over the tank getting it like it was going out of style! How often is safe? once or twice a week? They liked this much more then they like the NLS and flakes lol. Do they like the shrimp mix same way? !!!!!!!!!!!! CD

okay I am not a troph person.. but I put a cube in all of my tanks at least every three days or so. Even my puffer loves it. I would guess that you could put more than one cube for that many fish

I'm no expert, I can't really comment on this.
I will say however that I personally wouldn't feed my trophs frozen meaty foods, shrimp mix is the farthest I would go.
I feed shrimp mix only once a week as a treat.

              This is what I recomend..

              1. This type of food should be used as a treat only like 1-2 times a week.

              More important though,...

              1. Use it at first in moderation, and slowly increase the amount at the feeding before going to a second feeding in 1 week.

              2. Always when adding or enriching their diest use some caution and dont go overboard.

I would do once a week for first month or so, and work weekly on increasing the quanity.

Tropheus eat shrimp and other micro organisms, and other crustaceans in the wild all the time. Just know that whatever you feed them needs to have the shell on it.

Dont be slimy or without a shell.

I also feed it to my trophs as a treat. Never seen any ill effects from it. They LOVE it!

After trying a few different varieties, I now only use PE Mysis. They usually get it once a week to once a month. And when I do feed, it is before a water change just to make sure nothing it sitting in the tank uneaten.

Well after reading all this I am all kinds of confused now! Geoff says put anything with a shell in the tank but nothing without, and some say hell no! lol Really I plan on doing as Geoff says my question is if you feed this to 40 grown trophs like I have once a week how many of those little frozen squares would you use each feeding? Is one enough for now? I know it was like they were on CRACK they really loved it!
