  • New 135!!

    Hello All,

Just had my new (to me) 135 dropped off this morning! Woohoo!
I'm heading out now to get river rocks and a bulb for one of the strips.
The Chilambo/Nangu colony will be going in there. Which makes me happy because they are very cramped in the 75.

I'll get some pix up as the project progresses.

    All the best,
    Jenney.

So here are two shots. I am letting the tank settle overnight before putting the colony in. My local landscaping place was closed, so I will pick up rocks tomorrow. I ended up getting a 48" shop light from Lowe's and 2 Hagen bulbs for it in addition to the old strip lights, but I'm thinking the new one may be enough, it's pretty bright.

    Question,
My floor is not level. The right side of the tank is about .5-.75 inch lower than the left. How big a deal is this? All my tanks are a little unlevel, but like .25 inches. My floor is pergo on top of concrete.

    Jenney.

I may be wrong, but my understanding is that it's okay if it's not level as long as it's not twisted. Meaning you can't have one corner higher or lower, but if one side is evenly higher or lower, it's okay (within reason, of course). I don't know how much off is considered okay or for what size of tank. Hopefully, someone else can offer more help.

Hopefully Thai won't have to dump bleach into his eyes after he looks at my aquascaping and photo techniques. LOL
                    No fish.

                    Fish added.

I'm hoping everything goes as smoothly as when I first got them here!!!
                    Thanks for looking,

I like it Jenney. I don't see anything wrong with the scape.

Post some pictures when the water clears up. Bet you're loving the new fish.

You getting any breeding action yet?

Here's a picture of the dominant male. There is a little more fighting going on in this tank vs the 75 (which had none).
These fish's subltle beauty isn't so subtle any more. This guy's a looker.
I'll get more pix of the tank when it's no longer light outside.

OK. I moved pix around to different albums and it got removed from here.

In MY OPINION, I think the scape looks very "man made". To me, it makes the tank look a little empty and all I can focus on is the sponge filters. The fish are gorgeous and I think with the right scape, you could really have an awesome tank. Maybe try using bigger rocks and have one fairly large, tall pile on one side and a smaller, shorter pile on the other. I was taught that to have a pretty scape, the object was to first: make it look natural and second, position your rocks so that if you started looking from left to right, the rocks would "guide" your eyes all the way across the tank. The best example I can give of this idea is of Dan's Frontosa tank that he used to have set up at HAW.

                              Fronto,
                              I agree with you 100%.
I've been staring at it for a couple of days and it really doesn't move me very much.
I have to admit I am paranoid about loading tanks down with a crap ton of heavy rocks because 1) I'm worried the bottom will bust out and 2) displacement =less water for them.
I have to get over the first and my routine with water changes should help me feel better about the second (but it doesn't).
A guy in my club offered to sell me some of his holey rock and I am going to take him up on it.
I appreciate your candor and honesty.
                              Jenney.
