  • Anyone ever kept or bred Petro BLUE GIANTS

I have 10 Blue Giants ranging in sizes 7 inches to 14 inches.
With the Alpha male at 14 inches and the largest female is 10 inches.
    These guys are in a 240 gallon 8 footer with 19 Polyodons (sized 4 - 7 inches).
The polyodons will eventually be moved to another tank and replaced with Blue Fin Famula.

    my questions are:
1: Has anyone ever kept or bred BLUE GIANTS ?
2: How many in your group , what ratio ?
3: Were there other inhabitants in the tank (if so how many and what types) ?
4: What size tank were they housed in ?

    Thanks in advance
    Frank

This will be a question for Bethestaboy. He has a tank full of them. I know they are in a 800g.. beyond that I dont know... I have not been up the College Station (about 100 miles north west of Houston) lately to say much.
The last time I was there.. they where the only fish in the tank. The smallest one I believe somewhere around 9in and the largest was 16".

      What fish do Jesper have

Like Jesper said Mike is the only one we know of who has them down here. He has not breed them yet. Maybe when it warms up he will get some action. To me that is alot of fish in one tank. The two groups will keep each other from breeding. But the two groups keep each other from killing each other too. I would be looking for a 500gal tank to move the giants into. Then power feed with some good shrimp mix to get them started. Water change 2-3 times a week. maybe add 20-30 filament barbs for dither. Cross your fingers. Good luck! I want some fry!

Frank, did you check the European sites?

I remember seeing some dude on trophs.com with a massive tank and jammed packed with petros. I recall Blues being in the mix.
I ate my fish that died.

            Thanks
I will look for some info on some of the sites... The problem is that when I have found some information ,I have to rely on the Google Translator LOL..
I was informed that Julie and Denis from FryBabies has bred them a few years back.
            Once again thanks

Also I too think the Polydons will not breed in this tank but IMO that certainly will not interfere with the Blue Giants if they decide to do anything.
My buddy took the remaining 7 (2 , 5 ) Polyodons as 27 came in the box. He also took the remaining 12(4 , 8 ) Blue Fin Famula. I told him to put both
The Polyodons, and the Famula together in a 125. A week later the group of polyodons has 2 females that are holding.
So I will take out some of the polyodons out of the 240 and take a colony of famula and put into a 125 also.
This will give me a good shot of breeding the polyodons and keeping a good population stocking level in the 240 to limit the aggression in this 240.
