I just cant pump freezing cold water in my tank...I have to give them some hot water as well, to even things out. I have been doing it all year and never had a problem. I used to use warm water for my discus as well and never showed problems. I would think that straight cold water would shock the hell out of them.

I also use hot water from the tap. The temperature difference without the hot water is too much for the fish.

What I do is use the hot water when I'm syphoning out the water from the tank. That allows the hot water pipes to be flushed out and makes sure the water temperature stabilizes. When it's time to refill, I turn on the cold water and then add just enough hot water to match the tank's temperature.

I've been doing this for years with no problem even in my tanks with shrimp.

+2, but I actually aim for a two degree temp drop to help kick off some breeding.

Good to hear to got time for them now Omar!

                      78 all the time.

When water comes in I try to drop it to 74-75.

I been doing this ever winter for 3 years. Started doing it cause it was all the rave (with the results to back it up) on the Oz tropheus website, tropheus fanatic.

There was also some discussion on Tropheus heads but that site shut down around a year ago.

same thing here as thai, touch colder, really gets them sparked, that and a bigger WC,that being max 40%,my troph tanks get 30%/2xweekly,if i did a 90% WC,id have no fish.......................would be way too drematic of a change of water parameters...........

I would fill with colder water and my Trophs loved it. Not so cold it shocked them, but just a few degrees cooler and it really energized them. Now with my Discus I try to match up as close as possible. They don't seem to get excited about much, except maybe bloodworms.

Still doing 75% twice a week - it just goes a lot faster now with only one tank.
