It just dawned on me that the warmest place in the house is in my freakin tanks!!!!!!!! I'm freezing my butt off and the Troph's are swiming around in a constant 78F environment? Is there something wrong with this picture?

I've got the same thing happening over here. If there is something wrong, I'm certain that you are not alone!
    Scarecrow : I haven't got a brain... only straw.
Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

Our house is about 76° and so are my tanks. I don't even have heaters in them.

kinda got used to it.i've lived here my whole life.
hey peter, not exactly sure what you mean by run my water a bunch before i do the water changes.
if you mean by how cold it is...i just put the water in cold until it reaches 72 then put warm in until it reaches 78,heaters do the rest.
i keep my tanks at 80
