  • Sharing a weird experience

About a month ago, I moved some fry from one holding tank to another that was newly setup. For the first week in the tank, there were no issues, then I started to see wiggling in one place. For me this is a tell-tell, especially when it is only 10 fry sharing a 90 gallon tank. I tried clout, since that is the only med I prefer to use but it did not work, and before long fish started to "peel their scales" and have a very heavy slime coat build up.

I started thinking about parasites attacking the skin, and tried PraziPro. I hit the nail on the head with it. THe fish started looking better 48 hours after the first treatment. I ended up losing only 1 fry and everyone else were doing the things tropheus do about 4 days later, and I continued to treat for one whole week.

I wish I took pictures, especially since it was something I never encountered before. And I only had the meds due to some wild SA fish I bought last year that came in with worms.

    Hope that helps someone.

      Thanks for the info D!

I actually had this problem before. Never tried PraziPro.

Hope I never get it again, but if I do I know what to use.
I ate my fish that died.

I think a couple of my trophs just went through that. Anyone know where I can get some locally? I'd like to give it a try.

I don't really know the answer here. I reset up my 90 NEO after taking out all the gravel and stripping everything out of the tank. The wet/dry was rinsed out and for a while everyone was doing great. The only thing I did different was add some gravel that I had not tried with my tropheus before and added rock that had been outside on the porch. This is rock that I've used before and the gravel has also been used with another tank and my 215.

            So I have no idea.

Only the tropheus got it. The petro and synos in the tank didnt have any issues. And they were all removed from the same tank originally.

Stress lowers immune system's response to normal loads of flora and fauna on the skin.
We all have pathogenic stuff crawling all over us every second of the day. But our immune system keeps them at non disease causing numbers. Skin, the largest organ on the body, is the first line in defense against all kinds of stuff. When they're stressed, I've noticed these guys are so susceptible to any of the "critters" living normally on them.

Thanks for the info. Very useful.

Anyone know what makes PraziPro different from Drontal? Drontal is for dogs and cats and taken orally. It has praziquantel in it and you can get it in 18.2, 22.7, or 68.0 mg preparations. Drontal Plus has pyrantal pamoate (Panacur) and febantal in addition to praziquantel. I just wouldn't know how much to put into the tank per 10 gallons. I don't see why it couldn't be used, just about all the other stuff we can use in tanks is given to mammals and birds....
What does the label say in regard to mg per tab and dose on the PraziPro?
