  • Petrochromis Rainbow Macrognathus spawning

They have been going at it for almost 3hrs!!! she has a really big mouthful. Hopefully she takes, I will have to strip here on day 15 or 16 because that is when I will be moving so I dont want her to spit them in a bucket or swallow them. Look how big that male is!!!

Well it has almost been 4 days and she is still holding and seems to be a bunch for her. When she repositions them in her mouth she swims completely vertical slowly with her head going up and you can see her juggle them around in her mouth. So at 14 days what stage will the eggs/fry be in??? I have to move apartments in 10 days so she will probably spit her eggs while trying to move her. should I just go ahead and strip her eggs into a tumbler at that time or hope she doesnt spit/swallow them during the transfer???

If you dont strip her, she HAS to be alone in a large bucket closed lid etc.. basically as long as she is not worried about the move she will make it. Depending on if she has held to term (being WC who knows right ?)
You strip and who knows if you have the ability to transport them without loss... its going to be an interesting choice Randall

I was worried about the success rate of this batch of fry due to the move...so i tried a little something I saw over on trophs...I pulled her and stripped her being that today is day 6...She was holding one egg...wtf??? I think I need to get some flake and feed that when females are holding instead of my pellets. I think they are swallowing them during feeding. so I got one petro egg and like 20 chimba eggs all tumbling right now. lets see if I can get that one to make it...?

thats a good trick she was pulling over on you. Are you sure she was eating? From what i've read about trophs (i know were talking petros) they dont eat and only take in food to feed the young in there mouth which wouldn't be neccesary for at least a couple weeks after spawning.

oh she was eating!!! they all eat like crazy. I have read that is normal for them to eat and to not show very much due to their large mouths, but this just got to me. Maybe this egg will turn out to be a baby Huey!!!

1 is better then none. At least you know they can spawn now.
