Interesting discussion, guys. Just for the record....These fish were imported as Petrochromis orthognathus - collection location Bangwe. They were not labeled as "Tri-Colors" by the exporter or myself. IMO, the collection location is more important than a trade name.

Alison is correct these were never listed as anything but Petrochromis orthognathus - collection location Bangwe. The TRI-Color thing came from me and the Ikola thing came from the guys who know and have experience with Petros.... unlike me.... ... in time maybe.....

I have to pick up my 135 gallon tank(6 footer) that was sitting around my buddies basement....
I might also take the 125 gallon tank(6 footer) which is a piece of junk but does not leak.
That is if I can fit both of them in my SUV.
I will now thin out (disperse into other tanks) some of my petro collection so when a female is holding I can get her out before she spits.
This always happens to me .... When a female spits in my tanks they are a quick snack for the other petros.
I don't want to do the egg tumbling thing....
I think I will add some river rocks ... which when stacked creates small crevices that will give the fry some cover.

There is always a lot of shaking and baking in my tanks (except the new Ikola-Ikola and the newly acquired Red Fin famula and the Blue Giants) ....
The Red Dorsal Rainbow Kipili Macros.... Shaken but not Baken LOL . I am not going to mess with that 150 gallon tank
because all seems so mellow(13 Macro and 13 Kaiser Famula, saw several famula babies , but none now).
going to put some river rocks in all of my tanks.

good luck with the macros...I just got another 4 fry spit out during a water change today...at least that was all that I could find. the rest may have been eaten.

Do you have a lot of rocks in your Macro tank and do you use river rock ? My fry survival rate in the tank is lousy .... I need smaller crevices in the tank ....

I just got a call tonight, to pick up a 100 gallon setup(5 footer)..... and the best part about this is the "IT IS FREE"....
I just have to travel 70 miles each way for the pick up...
Could this mean "MORE PETROS" ?

Has anyone ever kept Petros in a 5 footer ?

I have open spaces in my tank...I just pay attention to when they spawn and look to see if she still has them around 20 days later and then strip her. at that point they are fish enough to make it on their own and I dont have to worry about tumbling the eggs.

My Orthoganthus Tri-Colors look very similiar to what you have. I do not remember the collection, I got them from Jolley, who got them from Mike couple years back. Hopefully Mike will remember...
