  • Strip ?..Or Not To Strip ?...That Is The Question !!!

Okay.....I have a female Moop that has been holding for 20 days now. I've had females hold before but none passed 9 days. One part of me wants to strip and get the fry...just so that I can say that I have successfully bred Trophs. But the other side of me wants to let her spit and do her thing naturally. The only reason why I want to strip is because I have raised these Moops from .75" to 1" to their current size of 3.5" to 4". (with the majority around 4") I know .. I know... I'm kinda weird like that... but when I'm into something...I'M INTO IT !!! So tell what you think I should do. If enough of you guys think I should strip then I will do it today.

you should pull her and strip. do you have a tumbler on hand just in case she is a different female and they are still eggs??? do you have a LOT of cover for the fry if you let her spit? do you have a tank ready for the fry if you strip.

My vote is to let her old all the way.

girls got to learn when not to swallow.
I ate my fish that died.

9 days? Because you have stripped before or because they spit? I am letting my Ilangis and Chaitikas hold to term since this their very first spawns.

Naw...9 days because that's the longest that I would see a female hold before she either swallowed or spit. But this particular female has been holding for 20 days now and I just wanted to see some fry.

Yeah...I have the tumbler and there's plenty of rocks in the tank. I also have plenty of tanks ready for the fry if I do decide to strip.

If she is holding this long, then she will most likely hold all the way.

If you want to strip I would do it at 28-30 days. I had a female hold for 6 1/2 weeks and lost a lot of body mass in the process.

Thinking back about it, I would have stripped her.

I also notice younger females spit right around 4 weeks. The bigger ones then to hold longer.

After the 4th work, the females will release and take back in the fry. It's a trip to see!

I've decided to let her go full term..and spit on her own. But I do think I should remove the four Demasoni that I have in the tank. I'm not sure.... but I think those Demasoni will definately eat some fry. But ypu did bring up a good point...Thai...about the loosing of the body mass. Geoff brought up a similar point in a thread a while back.

If you're not so much into selling the fry, I would just let them spit... unless like Thai said, there are health concerns with not eating.

Yep...that's what I'm gonna do. I'm just gonna let her spit on her own.
