1m/1f petro marco red dorsal

So I got my hands on a pair of Petrochromis sp. Macroganthus Rainbow "Red Dorsal."

From what I know Laif first imported these fish for the first time in the summer of 2008. They then popped up again recently.

I'm going to see if I can build a colony up from just this pair.

So far, the pair has been in my 125g lufubu tank for a week. Surprisingly, aggression is very low. I think it's having all these ditter fishes in the tank really helps. I have seen the male shaking a the female a number of times. However, the female is out of condition and needs to put on some body mass before she can breed. So for now she is not showing any interest in him.

I'll post pictures whenever I can. I'm excited to see how this works out. I'm done this with tropheus no problem....I'm praying for some luck with these petros.

doing great! a couple fry (males?) were going at it hardcore yesterday for about 30 secs. biting lips and thrashing it was crazy to see 2" petros go at it like that.

I had a female spit out 4 fry the other day that were not much bigger than normal tropheus fry...I guess the mother to yours just really didnt want to let them go!

You and Randell have petrochromis sp. marcoganthus rainbow "kipili". The one I got is collected near that area but it has red fins and not has much yellow on the underside.

Also, if you remember the study I just posted...petros do a good amount of moving (compared to tropheus) so collection point is not as morph determinative as with tropheus.
