I stripped my Ilangi's once, back in November and it took them til about a little over a month ago to get over the trauma of having their home demolished, faces squeezed, and being netted and chased. The females started spitting about a week ago and I am now up to 15 fry with a couple more still holding. My yield from stripping was 33, not counting the ones that got squished because the mama chomped them due to my bad hold on her. They aren't going to like it when I tear the tank down in a month or so to get the fry out, but I have a feeling I will have females holding again by the time that happens. And I'm hoping they won't spit due to stress. I look forward to seeing how it goes and will keep you guys updated.
It may turn out to be a very case by case (colony by colony) situation. For example, I netted out a "contaminant" RR that I got with my moops last year because she was in the "family way" and I didn't want her fry mixed in with the pure moops. The tank got torn down, the whole nine yards. Those fish were spawning as I was wrapping the Python back up to stow it!!! And the males were fighting. (Thai, I tried to get some pix, but they were up at the water line)
Anyway, my point is, the jury is still out for me....

I strip fish that eat their own fry. I do not see a reason to strip trophs or petros.

No matter whatit is all going to depend on what you want, because they are your fishes.

My suggestion is not to strip, because I dont and I think it is much more natural to let them do it on their own, and it is so much more cool to see how the mama defends them and tries to take care of them for the first couple days.

I know not all are good mama's though, and part of the joy of successfull keeping is having fry. Some people need that satisfaction even if this means they strip them.

I think my tanks being as heavily rocked out and scaped the way they are helps A LOT, and my tanks are not overstocked so this gives me a lot higher success for natural release by the mommies

Geoff I agree with you all the way I just wanted to here everybody's view on the subject. I used to breed parrots and the ones that the mother weaned they grew faster and developed to maturity faster.
