First, I bet people are wondering why this is in the tropheus. GUESS...

The plan is to build three ponds in the backyard. Each one will be minimum of 300 gallons.

    Let the journey begin.

I needed something large to hold them while I'm trying to get my floors redone downstairs. I figured a pond (or three) would be the best investment. This may also allow me to downsize in the house a little.

I'm dreaming of an 8x3x3 in my family room, and it may be the only tank in that room if I do these ponds right.

How are you going to keep these warm in the winter?

Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

Can't go bigger since I'm planning to put in three - all about the same size. And I need to leave room for a storage building.

Cool in the summer - it's almost 3 feet deep, and that should help. I may need to add more shade in the backyard also.

Warm in the winter - I talked to my "consultant about that" and he said I should be good 10 months out of a year. I plan to pull them out and but in an aquarium during those 2 months.

Okay here are a few specs:
                        13.5' at the longest
                        11.5' at the widest
                        33" at the deepest
Also added a small bog area. Should help with the filtration.
I might dig a little deeper tomorrow but for now I am tired.

I also picked up an idea for winter. Portable greenhouse.

Awesome project and great size pond. Think about having going a bit deeper with straight side walls and also a raised wall up to 2' high (digging is the hard part) to prevent raccoons, wading birds, snakes, frogs as these animals can eat all of your inhabitants.

Nice start and great progress DD!

I would go deeper also. It will help the water stay cooler during the day and warmer during the nights.
