Easy question :)

Ok, I've never kept petros but I have some experience with trophs & lots with featherfins & xenos etc. My question is: what's the smallest tank size I could reasonably keep a group of trophs ~20 & maybe a single petro or a couple unrelated petros. I'd probably run a eheim + a wet/dry at 10x. Is 75 to small? 58? Also I usually do 50-75% weekly water changes. I have very limited space and probably should just pass on petros but I've always wanted to try!:furious:

**not recommended** but 20 trophs can fit in a 75gallon tank with maybe one petro...and that is a maybe. a five-foot tank is a minimum really. More than one petro and I would suggest at least 6ft of tank space. Trophs can live/breed in a smaller tank than a 75...but I dont believe the saying that "breeding fish = happy fish". Fish breed because its natural...just like eating. A tropheus can go to 6" and bigger sometimes...take this into consideration when stocking your tank.

I polity disagree, it depends on species a lot, I would agree that bigger is better, but I had no problems with adult dubs in a 75g breeding was good, fish were very happy, also fish don't breed unless they are happy, I don't believe that I have ever seen unhappy or stressed fish breed.


If you were to go with petros I would do trews.

Also those same fish bred in mark razmandis 38g tano without problems, not saying this is ideal, but it can be done, nothing is impossible.

My petro famulas breed when I kept a group of 30+ in my 75g.

You can easily keep 20+ tropheus in a 75 plus one male petro.

I wouldn't do a petro group unless the were smaller.
