  • Romeo the polyodon petro

He died this morning. He was doing the death spiral. I noticed he did not eat last night. I guess it was bloat. I don't know for sure though.

This guy fathered about 400 polyodon fry in 2 years so he will be missed. I do have a back up male so we will see how he does. A female all ready took Romeos spot so I guess I will have to remove all the rocks for a couple of weeks till they settle out.

      Sucks to hear John.

I have notice this with petros....they are all crazy.

Granted that's not news, but even we think they have settled down and form a colony....someone goes nuts and kills someone else.

I think by nature they are solitary animals so they don't coexist in the artificial colony we try to impose on them.
I ate my fish that died.

Unbelievable, he was a breeding fool. Let's see how the backup does, hopefully my red rainbows didn't turn him into a punk

No one EVER messed with him. He either killed or I had to pull all the other males. There is one other fish in the tank bigger than he was. I thought it was a female but know I am starting to wonder. Maybe this fish got him with the old air bladder hit? He was spinning like a top when I found him this morning. But I have water problems over here so who knows. I will check with Ceser about the services of SLIM JIM.

No I got a carbon bottle last week. Spent $400.00 on a new one with catalytic carbon. I also use safe at 1 teaspoon per 40 gal so I added 5 teaspoons of it. Since the bottle only knocks the ammonia down by 1/2.

Are you dosing that much due to Ammonia?

From what I remember is that 1 tsb for 200 g is for chlorine but the dosage John is using is for ammonia. John sorry for your lose Romeo was a beast of a breeder RIP Romeo the great

At this rate it seems cheaper to age the water outside in the 300g.

Somebody correct me if i'm wrong but if the dose for remove chloramines (Chlorine+Ammonia) is 1 tsp / 200gl, why you need to use the dose for remove ammonia (5 x Chloramine dose). What i read is that safe help to reduce ammonia and speed your nitrate cycle but John's tank is a very well stablished tank with a massive wet/dry and the bacterias can easily break the ammonia, sorry but i don't understand ???
