That's a good find there Geoff! but you might have to go with all the same bulbs though since I have noticed some K-rating bulbs only come in certain sizes. Unless you are going with either 6700k or 10000k....I know 9325 comes only in 55w I believe.

Well if Idont use that PowerCompact 60" here is a rare find as well..

It says it comes with a 60" bulb, but I have never seen that.

It is a dark oak trim that matches the tank and stand.

        Tim,

I dont know what the advatange if any the moonlight would give me.

I mean Trophs sleep on bottom, and really dont make much of activity, but who knows under moonlight, I never seen them inthat way before.

I am glad that the person who has my fish, got that info.  Do you know if they utilized it?

Geoff, I was thinking  that there wasn't a particular advantage to having a moonlight, but I didn't know as to whether or not there would be a particular disadvantage to it. I have seen other people with moonlights on tropheus tanks, and was wondering if you knew something that they didn't. :)

They told me they were headed that way. I'll check in with them within the week to make sure that they got it.

Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

I know having moonlight on too long will case mad algae growth! Also having it on all the time at night cause the fish to stress out.....My Mobas get really stressed when I forget it on at night so I pretty much phased it out.

What is the purpose of moonlight?  Corals that pop out at night for feeding right?

I just dont see really where this would go.  I mean never tested so no experience to speak from, I would think like EK and say, do you like to sleep with the lights on?

Well with my corals the lights go out at night but the moonlights come on first thing and last with my light cycle....helps ease into the blasting metal halide 8)

My fronts are supposedly night hunters by nature but man the moonlights stress them out like no other so I don't even turn it on anymore.

Well the 60" flourescent fixture has twin 48" bulbs with reflector.

I think it comes to this.

                      1. 60" Flourecscent Fixture with 48" twin bulb 80W total - $60.00
                      2. 48" Coralife Freshwater Twin Bulb T5 56W total - $60.00
                      3. 48" Nova Extreme Freshwater Twin T5 HO 108W Total  - $96.00
                      4. 60" Odyssea Power Compact 322W total - $149.00

So if you look at it with cost of ownership and purchase the 48" Coralife is the one I should get.

I think the 60" flourescent would be the best looking match, but the adapability of the other fixtures is really nice.  I really like the sleek looks of the T5 fixtures, and the power compact is probably really too much light for what I am wanting.  322 W of light in a Tropheus Tank?

                      MY 180's have 4 36" 30W bulbs = 120W  This is enough light for what I want.

                      I think I am going for the T5 HO's

What's wrong with 322W on a tropheus tank?  My fish stay out even when I have all of the lights on them - totalling 520W.  I get some nice green algae, and my plant growth is pretty decent.  BTW, before tropheus, I did plant tanks with 500W of MHs on them.

I think the 322w is a good one too!

I want to upgrade my 3x55w PC's on my Troph tank to 3x150Metal halide which should really look good! Heck I want to get a 2x150w MH for my 30g.

Walter do you think I made a good choice with the T5 HO's or is it a good choice by EK to upgrade his lights to MH?

Donald, I never kept Tropheus under any lighting other than what come with the fixtures Oceanic Provided.  I am able to get some green algae, but I did notice on the 150's that brown algae seems to dominate more than green. I just cannot see 520 Watts of lighting. Donals could you send me a picture of the canary cheeks under lighting like this?

I just do not know if I would like that much lighting on the tank for the annectens.

Ek, 165W on your Ilangi tank and you still want more?  Why?
