So I will send Tim in my stead since I know he is going anyway, and I helped him the first trip with the loads and loads we got for him. and man were those rocks great. well that is of course if Tim will actually go, You WILL GO (subliminal suggesting) wont you Tim. PLease say you will  < this is what i will do if you dont. If you do decide to go im looking for mostly smaller pieces or ones that can break well into smaller pieces, im sure Geoff still has those nice new tools from the first trip, that sledge was a lot of fun to swing about.
I wish I could go, but I teach a College course on Satuday mornings. Unfortuantely I can't make any of the aforementioned dates. Those of you thinking about making the trip, I assure you that it is well worth it. Geoff is a consumate host.

Re: Rock Dig III - Burnet Texas

That would be real safe, shooting through brush at deers, with people digging rock on the other side. :P

Its ok, my lease last year had hides facing each other with just a couple trees /branches in between. And you could see the road from one of the stands - an FM road.

Does anyone want to ride with me from Kingwood/NE area to the meeting place, then onto Burnet? I'll probably drive the Prius, so it would be ideal if you didnt want tonnes of rock. It would be just me, so 1-2 adults, or an adult and 2-3 kids would fit most comfortably. No charge for gas aslong as you talk on the way. No smoking in the car!!

Any Saturday should work for me.  I have a Nissan Maxima, that I would like to leave outside the land and then return to for the longest part of the drive as long as there is a place we can park..  If I borrow my roomate's truck then I will be able to take a wheel barrel with.  The truck is a smokers truck.. the car is not.

Re: Rock Dig III - Burnet Texas

                      Things to think about..

Wheel barrows are a must.  Pick Axes and Shovels are very useful.  Sledgehammers are sometimes needed to bust up HUGE pieces of limestone.

There are about 4 large piles of rock to pick thru.  Then scowering the property, there is much more to be found, and several creek beds.  The rocks piles have been kinda picked thru on the other 2 digs, but there are plenty of pieces in there to be had.  A great number of those pieces in the rock piles, are excllent base or flat pieces.

There are a number of awesome finds on the property, that your going to have to dig up.  95% of the rocks are visible from the surface, and then need about 1-2 ft excavation on some to get them out.

There are some freaking huge pieces out there.  Some of the pieces are really hard to get to, thru lots of brush, and trees, and tall grasses.

I would highly recomend pants, socks, a hiking or workstyle boots.  Bring LOTS of WATER.  Before we head out to the property, or before we head back to Houston, we usually eat at the DAiry Queen, so if you want to bring food, there's no problem in that either. We could have a picnic :)

Beer is fine too, but I dont want anyone getting wasted out there.  There is snakes, cactus, and hiking required, plus lots of handtool work, then a long drive back!

There is a deer stand in the back of the property and they have a feeder.  If your real serious about it, I'll ask them, if you could come back at another time to hunt there.  While we are there, it will be just the rock dig, cactus hunt, driftwood, and mesquite gathering trip.

                      It's cool time there..

Just ask the people that have gone on the other 2 trips.

Tim, David, Raul, Chris and his wife, and Rick.

Re: Rock Dig III - Burnet Texas

The meeting place will be the Dairy Queen on 281 South.

                          Dairy Queen
                          502 S Water St
                          Burnet, TX 78611
                          (512) 756-2161

From there we take Pecan Street east and turn right (south) on CR 330,  Then turn right (south) on CR 334.  Then we will turn left (west) and then left (south) on CR 336.  From there its gets a little tricky. but if you look at a google map and follow those roads you will get the idea.

On the way out it might save some time to head to Bertram instead, but last time that happened, Tim, David, and I got lost.  It's easy to get lost out there, and you really do not want too, especially if we go in November becuase it will start getting dark around 5pm

Their land is about 20 mintue drive from the Dairy Queen.

That's a nice little hike from League City......but well worth it from what I have seen at Raul's.
