The only expensive one on there that I can think of are the Ilangi Yellow.....but having bought 39 of them myself I doubt it could be more then what I paid for mine since this is direct.

Re: Direct Import from Africa - African Cichlids Aquaculture

      There is no dumb question.

The minimum order for Tropheus is 26 fish.  As long a 1 person or 10 people together total 26 fish, Mike will get that box of Tropheus imported.

The box maximum is 56 Tropheus per box.  As long as you leave Mike 12 fish, he will go in with however many people are on that box for the shipping cost as a equal partner.  Otherwise, if less than 12 fish remain, the shipping cost is divided equally by the people ordering that box of fish.

The Maximum order you can place is as many as you want.

The Tropheus size should average 4"  The Ilangi are more than likely going to be the smaller fish, because Ilangi is one the most overfished/over collected Tropheus next to Duboisi types.

You might also be suprised when you open your box and there could be 5-6" fish in there, but most Large Tropheus do not get shipped unless special ordered, otherwise they would have a problem fitting 56 per box. So, the average size of the Tropheus will be 4"  The range of 95% of the fish will be 3.5" to 4.5"

I cannot post the pricing because it has been asked of me by Michelle and Mike to not do so.  I can however email you the price list if you send me a PM, include your email, and promise to not share the list or us it as some leveraging tool on other vendors.

Otherwise, I will only send you whats on the list that you ask for.

The African Exporter does not post pricing, but you can get a price list from her if you ask.

Re: Direct Import from Africa - African Cichlids Aquaculture

Please understand that Tropheus are a colony fish.

Your minimum order on anything Moorii which is the sp.black, sp.red. kasabae, and your other moorrii need to be 12 fish sold in a ratio of 1:2.  You can get by with 1:1 but you migh have to take 2 or 3 males and put them into their own tank if agression gets too high.

Your brichardi, annectens, and mpimbwe types need minimum 25-30 fish with as few of males as possible.  They are a much more agressive and larger sized tropheus.  Ideal ratios on them need to be 1:4 to 1:7  They will typically do that on their own, as extra males are killed off or beaten down to where they dont breed or you have to seperate them yourself.

Your duboisi are much more solidarity.  You can get by on Duboisi with about 6 fish as long as no more than 2 are male.  Duboisi is ok with a 1:1 ratio, but 1:2 is better.

So, ideally, the minimum order per person on the Tropheus availible in this order is 12 fish.  26 fish is the minimum set by Mike to have the box brought in.  I would say, that minimally, 2 people per box should order 13 fish.

Tropheus Minimum Order (my suggestion) is 2 people ordering 13 fish each.

        Take care,

        Geoff

          Geoff,

When ordering a box, they put in whatever they grab first I assuming.  So, couldn't a box of trophs come shipped male heavy?

          or 1:1 ratio

Re: Direct Import from Africa - African Cichlids Aquaculture

The are probably female heavy in the Lake, cause the males will push the other males out of the colonies or kill them?

I dont want them to breed them, but i dont want them to kill each other either.

Get a loner or get a bunch, but don't get a few..... :)

I think that would be a good rule of thumb for beginners....?

Re: Direct Import from Africa - African Cichlids Aquaculture

Almost all the fish come in ratio's of 1:2

They vent and check all the adult fish.  On Tropheus this will be fish over 3.5" where they can vent them.

On the fish smaller than 3.5" it's a crap shoot.  They do their best to not send male heavy.

At a special request that comes at a special price they will send higher.

In most cases they typically send 1:3 or 1:4 ratio's

On the list right now, only the Lufubu and Kala Island are not 1:2 or better

                Take care,

Which Synos are you looking at?  My only interest is in polli or petricola.
