Aquarium salt and Epsom salt are NOT the same thing.
Adding aquarium salt to his water would only potentiate his bloat problem.

I'm aware of this. I've just always used the two together during water changes with all my tangs.

Whatever pathogen has caused the Trophs and Petros to have bloat, has killed the 2-Ectodus quicker than **** thru a goose.

              Geoff, Geoff, Geoff.....

Well, I don't see how you can automatically say the bloat was caused by diet. I know good and well that your 300 is sitting up against a big window the same size as the tank. You don't have any heaters in your tanks. We have had some very cold days and nights recently. I'm sure you turn the heat on when you're home so you don't freeze your butt off. Also, when the cold nights become warm days because the sun came out.............So based on this, you really can't be positive of what caused the bloat.

You already buy the Clout the most economical way. That is the 1000 tab container from Jehmco. The only benefit of the Pond Clout is that one tab is for 100 gallons, if I remember correctly. But that cost the same as the 100 tab bottle. So it just saved you some counting. I agree with the Metro comment. I prefer Clout over Metro.

Why can't you treat the ectodus fish with full strength? Are they scaleless fish? If they aren't and if the tank was mine (which it was), I would dose the entire tank with the full dosage. You've got to be sure that no one still has it to pass along to another fish. You know how contagious it is.

You're not new to this. You know what needs to be done. I warned you about not having heaters. I know you've gone a very long time without them. But this is the first acrylic tank you've had and the first tank you placed directly in front of a huge window. I mean the whole tank is in front of that window. Also, acrylic tanks allow the water to change temps quicker than glass tanks.

Well, this goes to show that anyone and everyone can and will experiene bloat. It comes with the territory (owning tropheus and petros). I bet you'll have those fish in good health after five days of treatment. If you have any questions, give me a call. If you need more Clout quickly, I've got my 1000 tab container on hand.

If I repeated anything someone already said, then I'm sorry. I didn't read all the replies.

              Good luck, Geoff.

              John

                      LOL!

I'm satisfied with my cyphos and Ilangi for the moment. I may have to get another big tank of some petros soon. Only time will tell.

I'm doing good. I may have to tag along on one of these tours coming up. It just depends if I have a tournament that weekend or not.

Hey John glad to see you here.

I have been leaving the PC lights on when I am not home, and I have the themostat set at 72 in th house.  I have been checking daily the temperature in the tanks to gauge if I needed heaters or not.  The tank temperature has been sitting 76-78 the entire time since I set the tank up January 4th.

Maybe the cold snaps had something to do with it, but some of the Petros have never really taken to eating NLS or Aquarian the entire time.  So, I think it has been diet related, but the serious issues started over this weekend when all these fronts moved in.  So, I can understand temperature being a contributing factor.

I have seen too many times where people have dosed full strength meds and lost Bala Sharks, Callochromis, Xenos, and Ventralis and lost the fish because they could not tolerate the meds.  I do not want to full dose at one time the Ectodus until I think they can handle it.

They are still getting the full dose in 24 hours, its just adminstered twice a day 12 hours apart.

                        Day 2 Update:
Purchased Pond Clout, 800mg of Furan-2, Maxjet 1200 conversion kit, and another bottle of 100ct clout as well for making smaller doses.

2-Trophs are still a bit bloated, several Ectodus have stringy poop, and 1/2 the Petros are not eating.

The other 7 Trophs are eating, most of the Ectodus are eating, and only 4-6 of the Petros are eating strong, 2-3 barley eating.

I am only feeding Aquarian Flake Mix.

Plan for Tonight (Day 3) is 30% waterchange, dose 1 tsp per 10 gallons Epson Salt, dose Clout 6 hours apart.

                          John,

Acrylic is a better insulator than glass, thus keeps its temperature better than glass.  Just so that it is clear, these temperautre differences occured over days/weeks, not over night or throughout the day.

geoff-I think raising temp to 80 degrees and keeping it there is a good ideal. You know what you are doin. you will be back on track in a couple of days.

                              Hey, Geoff.

Did you happen to get out of bed around 2 or 3 in the morning to see what the temp was at that time? LOL!

My point was that you simply couldn't rule out other factors including temp fluctuations. I could have read your post wrong, but I believe you blamed the bloat solely on diet. Either way, it sounds like you have it under control.

Now go buy some heaters for all the tanks, keep the temp and diet consistent. :)

Just to point out something here....
The 1000 tablet treats 10000 gallons (1000 tablets * 10 gallons per tablet) which cost about $90 per bottle ($99 at BigAls).
The Pond Clout treat 2000 gallons (20 tablet x 100 gallons per tablet) and cost about $15 per bottle (Dr Foster).  That means it cost $75 for the same 10000 gallons.  So unless you are paying less than $90 and closer to $75 for your 1000 tablet clout and love to count multiple tablets - then the Pond Clout is actually the most economical.
