Re: any body know what kind of fish this is?
I'm pretty sure it is not a tropheus, but rather a Nicaraguense Cichlid or Hypsophrys nicaraguensisScarecrow : I haven't got a brain... only straw.
Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

I am going to go with Armthehomeless' view here. It looks like a very young specimen. If I am correct he will grow to be a pretty big cichlid. From reading what I can find, they will grow to 20cm (8in) male and 16cm (6in) Females. Looking at a video of the fish the owner had them with Firemouths of Kribs. They both made those fish look 1/2 size. They are big bodied fish rather than long, which is why I am saying they get to be big fish.

The fish is definately not a tropheus. It may look close, but it is not.
From the coloring the fish has in the flank, I'd suggest some kind of Central/SOuth American.380G For Sale $3000 Acrylic tank & stand
