I have a small group of adult T. Moorii Chipimbis in a 100G tank, I think 1 male with 6 females. They've had lots of babies over the last 2-3 months, the largest of which have reached about an inch. There are currently 20-25 babies. I've lost 5 babies over the last 2 weeks, all of medium size. No signs of bloat, water quality good. Feeding 80% Ocean Nutrition Spirulina, 20% NLS Cichlid Pellets 1mm. Recently added small group of Tang. Gobies (eretmodus, spathodus, t. irsacae... hmm... strangely familiar to other recent post). I now know the gobies are going to have problems with each other, but so far they are co-existing. Eventually I had planned to move them to other tanks. Are the gobies causing too much stress? The irsacae are extremely active.

Re: Baby Chipimbi Trouble
Adding fish to a tank can make fry have to move more into the open where they could get attacked and eaten. I would suggest if you want to make sure they make it move them into their own tank until they are 1.5-2in in length. Just a suggestion.

Re: Baby Chipimbi Trouble
Thanks for the replies. Any suggestions at this point? Would it be, in your opinions, more important to separate the fry, or move the gobies first? In approx. a month to 6 weeks, I am looking at moving the trophs to a larger tank. I could currently add one more tank, a 45 high, to put either in. I'm nearly out of room for any more. Should I medicate the trophs?

Re: Baby Chipimbi Trouble
I would treat all the fish with CLOUT.
This should help clear out the gobies, and help cure/prevent more Tropheus deaths.
As EK said, with TRophs, always QT new fish. I have seen it so many times where new fish added which were not QT had something that just wreaked havoc on the Tropheus and they get sick.
Make sure you perform your waterchanges.
This is what I would do.
Day 1 = 50% waterchange, and dose 1 CLOUT tablet per 10 gallons as directed on the bottle.
Day 2 = Dose 1 per 10
Day 3 = Dose 1 per 10
Day 4 = 50% Waterchange and Dose 1 per 10
Day 5 = Dose 1 per 10
Day 6 = Dose 1 per 10
Day 7 = 50% Waterchange, Add charcoal for a week to remove meds if all fish are eating. If fish are not eating, instead of adding charcoal, dose 1 per 10.
Keep this same routine of Waterchange and Dose, then (2) more doses and repeat until all fish are healthy.
When you get to the final waterchange, add charcoal to remove the meds for a week, then discard.
When you complete your treatment, make sure that for your next waterchane do not deep gravel vac or clean a filter. Do this so that your bacteria has a chance to recover.
CLOUT is powerful and can do some damage to helpful bacteria. I have never run into any problems, but it is always better to have some caution when using this MED.
Take care and keep us posted.

Re: Baby Chipimbi Trouble
Geoff, thanks for suggesting the clout regimen. I did the whole process, but my problems cleared up after about a day and a half. I used this treatment for bloat a couple of years ago, but they were showing obvious signs of bloat then. I didn't see these symptoms this time. Since I'm new, a short intro.- I've had a small colony of troph. Chipimbis for about four years. I've never had too many problems with them. I started the hobby with aggresive and semi-aggressive New World cichlids (and still have a few). When their popularity waned and their availability got more scarce in Houston, I told a former fish store owner that I used to buy from regularly that I was thinking of trying trophs. He warned me I would have nothing but disappointment, and told me I should switch to marine fish instead. I've never been interested in salt water fish, and got my first trophs from G. Ubulu and Alex. After experimenting with the first group, I then got the Chipimbis and some Duboisis from Armke's. Sold the breeding Dub's recently, and after I did that the Chipimbis started breeding. Guess I should have gotten rid of the Dub's a long time ago, as I've been waiting for the Chipimbis to breed for what seems like forever. But that's kind of typical, as most of what I have learned about these fish has usually been by the seat of my pants. I feel like I have had success with trophs (the true king of tropical fish), not disappointment as I was promised. Was referred to this site recently; what a great group of knowledgeable people! Sorry for the late update; shift work, family life and fish tanks kept me away. Thanks again to everyone who replied.

Re: Baby Chipimbi Trouble
Because when they first read about you Delock they are intimidated by the large stature you posses. Then later as people get to know you, they find out that you are nothing but a teddy bear, but by then the damage has been done and they have sold their dubs before you get a chance to pick some up. Sorry Delock.. just telling it how I see it :P

I am sure that someone thinks that..
If Superman was black, and they needed an actor to portray him, Delock would be a good choice.
