      Re: Dainichi cichlid food

I have had very good luck with the Dainichi for all my fish, I just got some of the Veggie Delux (DX) for the Trophes.  For the other tanks I buy a huge bag of Mixed Dianichi labeled store use only. It has a mix of baby, small and medium floating and sinking pellets in it.  They change up the diet with a mixture of thing for all the other fish but they seemed to look the best with the Dianichi.

Global Leader Aquatics  is at 8057-a fm1960 humble 77346   281-446-9800
          James is the owner.
If you go Lake Houston  to 1960  then turn right go 2 lights and he is to the left in the strip center at the second light behind the oil change place

2lb bag is a little under $30 as you buy more he drops the price way on down.  Great thing is with this, I dont have to mix my food anymore...for pelets that is.

They make some larger bags that he is trying to get for me.

He also has a huge, I mean huge bag, like 55 gallon garbage bag of fresh HBH-Veggie Flakes.  He purchased this and its just sitting there.  So thats going for cheap Im sure.  He gave me a large zip lock bag of this and my fish love it.

            Re: Dainichi cichlid food

Which formulas are included in the "mix" bag?

Are they rebagged food that the guy bought in bulk?

No this has not been rebagged at all.  It has a dianichi label on it and all.  I will post a picture and stop in tomorrow to see if he will do a group buy or qauntity discount.

I'm interested to find out about this as well. Let me email the dainichi contact to see if he can tell me alittle bit more about it. I'll let you guys know when he responds.

                        Re: Dainichi cichlid food

Ok, just got an email back from the Dainichi's. Looks like they are not liking that we are able to get the "for store use " product. Of course I will not tell him how or who. I will paste his comment on the "for store use product" below.

I didn't and don't want to get anyone in trouble so I will not tell me which forum this is from.

"This food has various pellet sizes and a mixture of all our foods. The reason for providing the mixture of pellets is do to the variety of fish that the store carries. The mixture of pellet sizes is because stores usually have display tanks with different types and size fish. However the mixture of pellet sizes and variety of formulas that you get in this “store use only” bag is not equal proportions and does not guarantee that you’re always going to get the same mix, it just happens to be of the food that we are running at the time. The mixed Dainichi is mixed seconds, it is the left over food that for various reasons did not make it into the batch for resale, either because the pellet doesn’t look perfect, meet standards, or the coating was not spread evenly.

It’s better to purchase the right formula and pellet size tailored for your fish then taking a gamble of what you might get in the mixed Dainichi bag marked for “store use only”."

I guess we gotta keep it on the down low...

                            Re: Dainichi cichlid food

Well I have seen in some manufacturing when they change a " lot" of food they are currently making. The left overs good or non standard get mixed.   I am like you and concerned that selling to a fish store and it being a food that was not correct could adversly affect the health of a fish.

This would be unethical in my opinion.

I got to say the batch i have looks pretty darn good.

                              Re: Dainichi cichlid food

I think using the food and giving it away to the pet shops is ok, cause they are just samples and most of the time nothing is wrong with it. They could just be seconds as he states. It's might be the wrong shapes or the special outer coat is not uniform looking.

That's ok, those batches are for stores only and not meant for the normal consumer.

                              Just my opinion

                                Re: Dainichi cichlid food

The only issue I have with it, is it is meant to be for the fish that are in the display tanks that do not get sold.

If they are using it to feed the fish for sale, I would not care because most fish for sale are not in stores that long.  Display fish are meant to be there for a long time.

The outercoating of the Dainichi pellet is not going to harm the fish anyhow.  The non uniform shape wont either.

I'd still eat my melted candy bar.
