CichlidFan, you crack me up!
I have a question about the background being light. We usually use black paint on the back side of our tanks so you can't see through them. Would a blue color paint be better for these types of fish - to encourage them to brighten up, or did you mean something else?
Did you paint it on, or is one of those ones you stick to the back?
Hey, do Ilangis have that yellow around their eyes like the Lufubu do? They are both awesome looking.
Thanks again for the info and forgive my stupidity but what do you mean when you say "parched"? I assume you have to peel it but wasn't sure what you meant by "parched". Any other fresh veggies that they can graze on?
When I had trophs, I fed them romaine lettuce once or twice a week. They seemed to enjoy it
Scarecrow : I haven't got a brain... only straw.
Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

I have one of the stick on backgrounds which flip from black to blue...tried both and like the blue better. As for the eyes, yes, my Ilangi's have the yellow iris.
Okay, thanks. About the yellow - I don't mean on the eye itself... more like above it, on the eyelid. I've noticed the rainbows & a couple others have like a band of yellow around their eyes. It looks awesome.
On one of out tanks we actually used dark window tint instead of paint on the back & it looked a lot nicer. I wonder if a gray tint would work if I had something white or whatever behind it so it wasn't translucent?
Tim- I have heard of people sicking a chunk of cucumber in the tank & them loving it.

Cool I will try that too and see how they like it. Any other veggies? Are the cucumbers ok to give them? I would love to try anything that they will go for to supplement what they are already eating. If romaine is ok what about raw spinach? Thanks a bunch everyone!
Romaine, cucumbers, zucchini, oranges... that's all I can think of. I woud imagine there are others (squash maybe), but I haven't seen them fed a/th else.
I worked at a store that fed oranges to koi/goldfish . I wouldn't recommend it for the home aquarium because it affects the water quality too much.
I have fed my fish a wide variety of veggies - from peas to lettuce to collard greens to spinach. The ONLY thing that I have personally fed tropheus however is romaine lettuce.

The seaweed that you mention is that marine seaweed? I mean I see it all the time for sale for saltwater fish but I always wondered if the tropheus could eat that? Or are you refering to a different type of seaweed?
