28 will work for sure I'm doing it, but I think less would be better.

it's all upon preference really. if you wanted pure f1 fry then i guess you would want to stick with only wilds, which will cost you. on the other hand if you did mix them, the fry would just be considered tank raised. my pineapples are a mixture of wilds & f1's and are doing just fine. it's cool to see the variation of colors/changes throughout the colony.
When mixing F1 and Wildcaught two things have to ok first.
1. The wildcaught have to be clearly acclimated to eating process foods, and your waterconditions. Many times wildcaught have stuff/bacteria or been exposed to lots of crap in holding tanks, plus lots of stress of caputred, bagging, and shipping over several days that can wipe out a estbalished F1 colony.
So...make sure your wilds are acclimated, all are eating good, and have had some kind of quarantine for about 3 weeks to a month or more before you mix them with F1's
2. When you mix the groups just be honest about the fry to whoever buys them that the breeding group is a mixed group of wildcaught and F1's from another group.
Otherwise no issues...

I really like to buy fish and watch them grow. I really enjoy all the stages of change they go through before they become adults. The reason I was asking is because I want to buy F1 1.5 - 2" and I dont' want to buy some wild adults if they are going to harm the smaller ones. Also is there any other variant that I can safely put in with them besides duboisi?
You could put another variant in with them, but you're always risking the chance of cross-breeding later when they reach adult stages. I would recommend a group of petrochromis because they mesh well with tropheus and will not cross breed with them. I've had great success with my moops and trewavasae's together.
I've not had problems when adults mixed with juviniles that were in 2 to 2.5" size.
You start to get a little problems if you juviniles are over 3" but not much really.
Just make sure that when you mix them, you perform a large waterchange of 50% or more, and then if needed re-arrange all your rockworks.
