Your battery powered airpumps would also last longer if the airstones are near the surface of the water.

Loretta, I think the only thing that would make it work was if that group buy had Petros or Tropheus in it.

If the power would go out in a storm, I would use a cigarette lighter converter box that coverts from the cigarette lighter, into an outlet. Plug it into your car, run an extension cord from the converter box in your car to your tank, plug it in to the pump cord and then just turn on your car. Now you have moveing water.

i bought 3 of the Rule 360 gph bilge pumps.16.99 ea.  tie wrapped some backer bead around them so they float. backer bead is the round stuff they put in the crack's in the driveway. drilled a hole in output and inserted 6 in. of air tube. sticking up. bought 3 10 ft cig. lighter extension cord's from walmart for 4.88 ea. wired them on. got 3 jump starter battery  packs. these will run for at least a couple of days straight. not a lot of bubbles but a lot of surface agitation. i also have a floating airerater i bought years ago for 50.00 called a burgess. it works great will not heat up water. these do the same thing for 1/2 the price.

                  to all the troph keepers:

Are you guys finding that the battery powered air pump keeping the trophs alive (for at less 4-5 hours).  I would think that a tropheus tank would need more flow. I'm really considering the UPS over the battery powered air pumps.

Re: Any back up plan for when the electricity go out?

The time frame is going to depend on how many fish, gallons, and watercondition.

I have kept about 20 of them in a cooler with a airpump and did fine for about 8 hours.  On the other hand, I helped someone move their tanks, they put all of their fish in 3 different trashcans, with one battery operated air pump per trashcan, and after about 4-5 hours, just like you posted, the fish started over stressing, floating on their sides, and some did not live thru it.

If you can afford it a UPS is definately the way to go.

Like others have done, get a extra car battery, and then get those bait pumps per tank or so and use those.

I got (2) battery operated pumps per tank and enough "D" cell batteries to open a walmart with.

You know it dawned on me when I was cruising through the threads........ You asked me before about this and I told you to get an UPS and I could have sworn your response was that it wouldn't happen or never has happened...

Funny how all the things I suggest you knock and now you are now realizing.

As much as I drink.....I can't remember what you are talking about.

As much as you drink......you might have made that up.  I want to see a link.

All jokes aside, if there is anyone that doesn't change there mind then they would never grow right? I think people call that learning but I'm not sure.

Remember when I told you about 75% water changes......you was knocking like all the old timers on cyphos.com......now you live and die by doing major water changes.

Live and learn my friend.....we all just live and learn.
