          Re: trophs in pond

Yep, sorry, I am in Baton Rouge LA. I had the chance to catch a few of the red rainbows that were outside, and they were stunning. The deepest purple and red one the flanks that I've ever seen.

On another note, The moops really don't color much outside. They have added some weight to them, but the colors are the same from when I got them a few months back.

I will take pics and video the next time I get out there. The problem with pond is that They look all black from the top angle. Only when they are fighting or mating do you see the sides of them.

When I take them out for the winter , I will take lots of pics and upload for all to see.

The house project is getting pushed back cause of Gustav , so It won't be ready til end of January. SO this means that I will be building a few stainless steel pond for the T's to keep for the winter. I will begin the build end of October. I will keep them in my gf dad auto shop in the back til the house gets done. If I don't get them inside before November, they will all start to float.

I will keep everyone updated. Internet is flaky after Gustav. You guys are dealing with IKE today..

              Re: trophs in pond

We didn't have too much damage compared to alot of people in Baton Rouge. I just lost a few fences. We put it back a couple of days later. We lost power for 3 days, then it came , then out again for a night and now it is back. I know some places that still don't have power.

I am starting to seriously think about the winter though. I was planning to build a few ponds out of stainless steel, but looks like large plastic tubs are gonna be a little cheaper and easier to deal with. I found a 350g online. Does anyone know of anywhere that ships them?? I will probably be ordering them within the month. Thinking about getting 3-4 of them. Gotta start saving again I guess..

                Re: trophs in pond

I have noticed some people get the rubbermaid 150g tubs.
They have them lined up in their garage for the fish that have to live the winter.

Now they are not Tropheus, but I have seen someone who keeps Tropheus in the same style 150g tub.
Fills it with rocks, heater and a filtration system.  He even reports getting young out of the tub.

                  Re: trophs in pond

That's a thought. Let me check on prices on that. Currently, I just have 3 30 longs and 1 55 set up inside. Not sure if it can handle about 100 fish.

Its gonna be interesting catching all of them though.

I might start in a few weeks and slowly bring them inside.

                    Re: trophs in pond

I really want to use a few 300g rubbermaid tubs for keeping tropheus.... I have seen Fronts, Coral farming and shrimp breeding done in these tubs all lined in a garage so Trophs shouldn't be that much worse.
