Tropheus and Petrochromis food - Protein % less or more?

what % protein do you feed your fish? is less % better... wanting to feed flake and pellet.......i feed nls as my pellet but looking for a good flake... thanks..mickey carroll

I have found the protein % rule is BS.

I don't look on labels anymore.

Feed whatever good quality food you can find and don't be cheap about it.

Also all depends if your fish are healthy enough to handle new foods or to properly digest that food.

If you sat in the tub all day you think you will need to use much food?

I think ingredients are important.  Then taste.  Do the fish like it?  If they don't like it, then you're stuck with it.  

Tattoo - if you want to go in on an order, I'm about to place one.  I need more pellets and flakes from Ken's.

I hate flakes with the passion.

But yes I do have flakes that I mix myself if I ever needed it.

I personally don't see the need to feed flakes when so many high quality pellets are available and less messy.

The nice thing about the flakes I get is that they come in these huge sheets.  It's not messy with these because they snatch onto a large piece and take off with it instead of it spreading all over the tank like confetti.

I feed Aquarian Tropical Flake food, and NLS Pellets.

I feed these different types of food so that all the fish, get food. Flakes spread all over the tank, where as NLS sinks to bottom.

I have even feed Hiakri Excel, which I also like alot and it floats.

I always believe it best to feed flakes in the begining and then move on to a pellet food unless the fish is already eating a pellet food prior.

I think any flake food that has a high vegtable content is the best, and the protein % is not really matter on anything.  Its about the ingredients.

PEtros and Trophs need protein from vegtable matter more than meat like protein from fish and shrimp.

It used to be the assumption that high protein makes the color fade, but I dont think that is the case.  Take fshfrks fish.  His moops he is raising are 100% on Puppy Chow, and they ahve great color.  Then on the flip side, moops he sold back to Alex had no color.  I thinik it all depends on the breeding stock quality, and all that high protein stuff is ...well...not so much of an impact as previosuly thought.

One thing is certain...

Higher protein food makes more waste.  More waste make more ammonia.  So you need to make certain that if your feeding a high protein content food, that you have really good working order filtration.  Most people already do this, with Trophs and Petros, but is still something you need to think about.

Aquarian is a lower protein flake food, that is vitamin fortifed.  That is why I like it best for a flake food.
