  • Re: Petrochromis sp Blue Giant

Steve, my plan was to feed them as much as possible from the get go so I am taking the food bill in stride. I might have to cut back a little to help improve water quality but for right now it's full steam ahead. In a total surprise, I noticed last night that there's a female starting to drop her vent so no reason to hold back on feeding now. I know the filters are gonna come around in a week or two so I'll deal with the cloudy water till then.

        Oh right

... and I did order since if that HBH spirulina soft pellets. They are already eating it, so that's a good sign.

Yeah, they don't like it as much as some other stuff but it's a real healthy staple to have in the mix. The shrimp is good for what yer tryin' to do but moving it to a frequent treat might not be a bad goal once you get their condition lookin' like you want it. It will give them some awful dirty poop but, more importantly, their guts just ain't designed for that much meat. I have fed a lot of it to fatten and as a treat once in a while...no health issues that I could tell so far. Still, not sure it's wise to keep it up indifinately.

I'm not too worried about it since shrimp is mostly water. I think the issues start when you feed cooked shrimp because the protein structure changes with heat.

Yes, staple will be a mix of New Era, Dainichi and HBH, with shrimp, krill and shrimp mix supplementation

              • Last week of treatment going on now. There are still two fish that only eat certain foods, but what-the-hey, they'll come around. Thanks for the kind words.

Thanks Rene. I'm gonna predict breeding in the next 3 - 4 weeks, give or take. The male I got from thedude and the big male that came from you threw down the gauntlet yesterday and the former is not the dominant male. He has been shaking at a couple of females specifically so the next few weeks will really be interesting.

Man, I agree but I don't want to put anything in there that I can't take out myself in a pinch. If you know of some rocks that are huge and light, let's deal. Pm coming your way
