  • Wild Caught Katoto

Hi everyone new member here and thanks to Sunny for the club invite.

I'm a newbie in the tropheus scene and would like to have all the advice and suggestions I can get for my first WC tropheus. I actually started off with 27 F1 chaitikas all from Luis but I had to sell them off and reduced all but to 1 tank. I think I sold them to one of the members here. I also had Flowerhorns as well but sold them off too when I got bit by the tropheus bug. So now I'm down to a 75gal with 12 WC Katotos. Got these 3 weeks ago and they seem to be doing ok so far. I have a very aggressive male that was just messing with everyone. So to reduced his aggression I added more rocks (recommend by Luis) because I had a big open space in the middle. It really calmed him down a bit.

Here are some pics of the Katoto's:

Here's a vid of the tank showing the male just messing around with everyone, it looked like a race track speedway for awhile:

And here's a vid adding 2 big rocks in the middle and it sorta calmed him down a bit:

And just for fun I took a side shot video of the tank, thought it looked cool to add:

I recently added more rocks and it seems to keep him busy going through all the holes, I'll post of pic of it later on the new scape.

Well thanks folks for looking and please feel free to throw some reccomendations at me. I want to add more to the colony but it will have to wait after the holidays.

    Thanks again,
    Norm

Norm, you got some healthy active fish there! Thanks for posting the photos and videos, really shows there colors off.

Now comes the part where you need them and build the colony up to about 40 or more. Lol.

Will do! I've been seeing a lot of shaking and dancing going on. Not sure if they are just establishing territories or they ready to do the nasty hahaha. Oh yeah I notice that most of the fish are hanging around at the left side of the tank and 1 is hanging around at the right side of the tank. Could it be the left side are the females? The dominate male is just cruising everywhere like he owns the place and then bolts in front of them and starts shaking and flaring. Its kinda funny to see haha.

                    Re: Wild Caught Katoto

The females and sub-dominant males will stay away from the dominant male's territory for the most part

The day will come. Just be patient and keep up with the tank you'll have a big colony sooner than you think
