    Re: Nerites!

Just checked them out earlier and some had made their way into my overflow which has about a yrs worth of algae growing in it.....running medium amount of light over the tank so algae gets growing nicely!

Here are pictures of the tank in which you can see the solid brown overflow....it was super solid! thickness was about 2x creditcards!

Here it is now at 3.48am after some Nerites climbed in about 1-2pm

    These things are freaking awesome!

        Re: Nerites!

Maybe you can rent them out after the algae is gone. What are your trophs and fry going to graze on now

          Re: Nerites!

There's still a good amount of algae in the tank....plus I throw some Nori in there for them.

Probably gonna rent them to my other tanks cause now that I know how effective they are I am gonna use that as an excuse to up the lighting in my non-planted tanks and just throw some of these Nerites in there to keep it looking good.

            Re: Nerites!

Combine them with amano shrimp in a planted tank and you have a one two punch algae fighting crew.  If you add yourself with regular water changes, then make it THREE!  I remember the first time I got them a couple of years ago.  They turn my power head brand new!  They are common around the gulf coast region.  Not sure if they reaches Texas.  I have family in Port Arthur and will have to check out the marshes there.

Amano shrimp, Otocinclus and Nerites! Ultimate algae combo!

The ones I just added to my tank was a bit further East but still in the Gulf, somewhat. Thanh, if your relatives do find some there maybe we can pitch the idea of a collection trip?

                  Re: Nerites!

i WOULD BUY SOME NERITES FOR $.50 A piece. I love the nerites I have now.  Although.... my baby bristlenose are the best.  My shrimp are working hard in my planted  platy tank.  My buffalo tank has three semi lazy nerites and a hyper bristlenose baby...but he can't keep up.  The buffalo's pick at some of it, but theyare not that excited.

Glad you made it over here bro!

Probably best to start a thread in the Fish Market for all the interest that will soon come and update your profile with your location etc.
