slap on wrist for retailer to be doing that
slap in face for consumer for not checking expiration date

I usually closely scrutinize the boxes/packaging of things I am purchasing.

I'm also usually the guy you see in supermarkets peering closely at the expiration dates on milk and eggs and going so far as to open the lid on the eggs and spin them a fraction to make sure they are not cracked (cracked eggs stick). That retailer keeps the medications behind the counter. I was also in a bit of a hurry. I also did not specify the Maracyn II for freshwater. Nor did the clerk bother to ask which version I wanted. I figure that part of it is on me.

Being as I always check for the expiry dates on medication prior to administration--I figured it out after I got home.

Well to help your end of the situation out a bit...

the SW maracyn dos is the same thing but with the addition of VitB so you should be fine using either for FW, the active drug in maracyn dos is Minocycline which normally has a long half life from the production date but in your case right out of that but seeing as though you are using the drug I would imagine you have fish already on it's way out... the outcome of this could be one of two... the med is still good but just not as strong anymore and your fish recover or the med is past it's shelf life too far and has now become toxic and it will help you euthanize your fish.

Just a betta with a little case of popeye. I expect him to make a full recovery. As it was impossible late Saturday evening to get a replacement and he was already 3 days into the treatment (using what I had left over from a previous box), he got one dose of that expired batch, and I went to Petsmart on Sunday to pick up a fresh box.

I usually pay about $25 a head for the bettas I pick up. That would be about $100 for 4...
