My 55 Gallon Shrimp/Tropical fish Aquarium

Contacted armthehomeless, not sure how many I'm defenitly gonna get but probably 20-30. We discussed how ever many he could easily catch. Should be enough to start with though.

yea that is plenty. I don't use sponges on my filters the shrimplets do get sucked in but just draining the filter gets them back out. I use it as a nursery for them lol.

Yeah, use the other mosses and java as a last resort? I usually keep a ball of it floating and trim as needed. I would definitely get a cover for your intake. Baby shrimp are small and not all are smart enough to hide until they get larger.

Don't rule out the nicer variants of the java fern, some are quite lovely, esp needle leaf. Plus no planting, just tie to a rock/wood and let sink.

See I'm not really wanting to put a sponge filter on that intake. But I also don't want to be losing shrimp lets. Afraid a sponge would mess with flow and such.

The sponge will mess with the flow. Don't worry you have a 2217 the shrimplets hang out in the bottom and feed on the gunk in the bottom. All you have to do to get them out is drain the inlet into a bucket and count your shrimp lol

How corse of a filter do you use. I would want something very porous if I use one.

I'll give it a go. How often are you draining the filter?

once a month or week depending on if my puffers are spawning or not.

Oh and don't waste money on shrimp food lol.

I have some 10ppi poret foam if you want to make a pre filter.

Well I've got foam filters and such I can DIY something, just don't want to cause damage to the 2217.

Yeah that's something that I do need to look into is food I guess. Had planned on feeding algae wafers and some of my cichlid pellets. I wanting to order or just go buy some tetramin color granules.
